There has to be a happy medium between the 2, just ask Oklahoma.

Stupid article.

Let's just go back over the playoff era.

2014: Ohio St: #10
2015: Alabama: #1
2016: Clemson #9
2017: Alabama: #2
2018: Alabama: #1 / Clemson: #3

The only thing that's changed is that you now need both. But you still ain't winning a national championship without a good defense.

You're not gonna win a natty being all defense and no offense, you're basically Michigan State at that point. You're also not gonna win a natty if you're all offense and no defense. You're Oklahoma then.

I'd rather have a prolific offense and an average defense than a prolific defense and an average offense, but the best teams play both.

Offensive ratings of those same teams:

2014: Ohio St: #2
2015: Alabama #18
2016: Clemson #6
2017: Alabama #12
2018: Alabama #2 / Clemson #9

On average the teams that have won the national championship in the playoff era have better defenses than offenses. But all have been complete teams.

Nah you still need defense if you want to outscore your opponent. Offense is great but defense is still the biggest part.

You have to be the best team to win a NC.

You've got to have a strong run and pass defense and a strong
run and pass offense. You've got to be good in every aspect of the
game.

That's what wins championships.

Every coach on defense can take away what an offense does best,
but no defense can defend everything.

Truth is nothing has changed. You need to be good on both sides of the ball. There are the occasional generational units that come around that can do 80% of the lifting, but it is rare. It’s pretty much always been like that

Fortunately, Bama plays both.

Unfortunately, so does Clemson...

Rules are changing in every sport to protect the offensive player.

Watch it be a matter of time before the NCAA adopts the NFL’s insane roughing the passer rule. Right now you can hit harder in college than in the pros.

Bama and Clemson rank in the top 5 of both Offensive and Defensive scoring.

Almost unheard of in a single season for a single team, but for 2 P5 teams to accomplish the feat in the same year?......, yeah, pretty fucking sure we have the 2 right teams playing for it all.

Sorry bud, but losing a game while only allowing 7 points is crazy in today's game.

But it's not as bad as that 3-2 Auburn-Miss State game a while back, or that Wake Forest-Virginia Tech game that was 0-0 headed into OT.

I do believe you need to either score one more point than your opponent or hold your opponent to one less point than you in order to win.

Now, ain't that philomosophical as hell!

You put that QB on his ass about 5 good times, and it changes the game...

*See
Don Nehlen's WVU offense v. BC with Flutie

I honestly think we rushed 10 guys on one play...

I think you need a great offense and a bend but don't break type of defense in today's era. Bama's defensive stats are vastly inflated due to the inept offenses in their conference and the fact all SEC teams fucking lay down like a bunch of wimps and faggots every Saturday when they step on the field to play the Tide, which is primarily the reason their defense gets pissed on in the playoffs when they play an offense with a pulse and plays a team that doesn't fear them. But with that being said and before 4down20 blows a gasket and jizzes all over himself over my statement, what pays off for Bama is the fact that the defense they have is built to be a bend but don't break type of defense when it counts in the playoffs which I would take at Texas any day of the week and twice on Sunday.
