Video scouting report »
Cowser was a late bloomer at Cypress Ranch HS (Cypress, Texas), where he played alongside projected 2021 first-rounder Ty Madden and J.J. Goss and Matt Thompson, who both went in the top two rounds in 2019. Scouts liked Cowser but not enough to divert him from Sam Houston State, where he now could surpass Glenn Wilson (No. 18 overall, 1980) as the highest pick in school history. The only Bearkat ever to play for the U.S. collegiate national team, he earned MVP honors in a 2019 series against Cuba after batting .438 in six games.
One of the best bats in the college class, Cowser has a pure left-handed stroke and repeatedly finds the barrel. His quick hands allow him to pepper line drives all over the field as he
executes a very controlled approach. Though he presently doesn't have a lot of loft in his swing, which leads to some questions about his power potential, he has the hitting ability and strength to provide 20 or more homers per season.
Scouts are somewhat split on Cowser's ability to play center field, though enough think his solid speed and instincts will allow him to stay there. He possesses an average arm and spent most of his prep career in right field -- Goss and Thompson played center when they weren't pitching -- and part of his freshman season at third base. His game has earned him comparisons to Brandon Nimmo and Bradley Zimmer and he could join them as mid-first-round picks.

a likly pick..for mariners..from my point of view...unless they go with cannon

mariners need..RF and outfields...HS pitchers......and other hs players will do other than that ..for this year

cuz of the loss of the rookie league..they need a step back...for some stuff............at low lvls

a mick abel..( from oregon last year..when to philis at # 15).type HS pitcher would do as well...i just do not see any at this time..

Andrew
Painter
RHP, Calvary Christian (FL)
or
Jackson
Jobe
RHP, Heritage Hall (OK)

Carter
Jensen
C, Park Hill (MO)

tacoma projected roster

i well start with..2b..and ss..and guys on the 40 man
Donovan Walton 31..........ss.......with crawford..and haggerty...at mlb..it is not likely..don..will be there....for now...remember..he had a 300 ave..at AA
and has yet..to play at..AAA
add David Master..as a backup
Shed Long Jr. 4...............2b........i expect long..to be at mlb..at 2b for seattle..but if he is not..he will be here..that also would put moore in LF..a lot
and at 2b..when long is not there..we will see on that..that is the real questions at seattle right now

Sam Travis.......!B........sam is good 1B..and could break out..so keep an eye on him..he had some coffee at boston..lol
Jordan Cowan70...........3B.....jordan came up with the mariners..sense hs....he has had some injurys..then covid..we still need to get a good look at him..at..AAA
  • Draft: Round 37 (2013, SEA)
  • School: Kentlake, Kent, WA
Jantzen Witte............3b/1b..backup

José Godoy................catcher.......he will not replace any of the guys at mariners.a good catcher though it seems
Josh Morgan............as backup..........i do not expect..Brian O'Keefe6..to be at tacoma..but at arkansas...when they bring up

Cal Raleigh
...who they say...is ready..to be at least at tacoma........cal could be on the 40 man..by next year

that is infield..now outfield

Braden Bishop 5..orJake Fraley 28...will be here..the other will be 4th outfield for the seattle mariners ...if it is bishop..then he could be traded at any time..and if
Taylor Trammell 2...hits well in spring training he could be here..otherwise he will start at AA with kelenic
Luis Liberato80......all these guys are CF..luis is the back up

Dillon Thomas...in LF..orDom Thompson-Williams74...one will be at tacoma..the other at arkansas..i would think

Eric Filia72..............RF/DH/!B......eric has a 320 car..ave..in the miners..he could use a good year that would put him on the 40 man..i would say
and really they need him for insurance..forJosé Marmolejos 26
eric has a diff batting style..that could mess pitchers up..i will keep..an eye on eric...and see if ..he continues..that 320..ave..at AAA

Collin Cowgill47...backup

roiation
Cody Anderson60............of cleveland fame.....anytime he is doeing well..and the mariners need him..he could go 40 man
Anthony Misiewicz 38......L/L.....a good chance..he is here..rather than at seattle...at least to start with..he is on the 40 man
Logan Gilbert86...........................it s better that logan starts off here...imo
Darren McCaughan82...............any time he starts having a good era.....he is most likly a bull pen guy..for mariners
Robert Dugger 30....................waived by miami..seattle picked him up..could start or..bull pen ..we will see......40 man
Ljay Newsome 74....................we know..ljay..will be in seattle bull pen at some point..but he will prob get starts here as well....40 man
Roenis Elías..................L/L...........signed..to a miners contract..we know elias can start ..or bull pen

too much to put bull pen guys here..so ill do that later

i will do a seattle bull pen probable..then tacoma

seattle
Will Vest........rule 5 guy from detroit...if he makes it they will keep him as a closer.out of spring training..if not..they may trade detroit a diff relief guy
then send vest to tacoma..or just send him back to..detroit..either way..he would be off the 40 man
Rafael Montero 47 (CL)
Keynan Middleton 99
Domingo Tapia 45...i think they want to look at him as a closer..cuz he can throw up a 99 mph..we will see
Kendall Graveman 49..........after being injured..i think the best spot for him is the bull pen...he is a good pitcher...who i feel will do well out of the bull pen
Brandon Brennan 60...a rule 5 guy a few years ago..he has made some improvement..enough to get one more look

guys in the up and down mode..from seattle and tacoma

Anthony Misiewicz 38............seattle needs..LHP.ers..in the bull pen...misiewicz..is the guy..that is best for that..right now..as an innings eater
Aaron Fletcher 41.....................fletcher..is the other LHP..that is a possible...more of a specialist..than an eater..if you ask me though
Ljay Newsome 74......................we know ljay..will be there at some point

guys on the 40 man but prob at tacoma
Yohan Ramirez 55................good numbers..could be a closer...soon
Joey Gerber 59...he could be up at any time as well...he is..goo--ood..he won a big ten pitching award..he is a closer as well
Andres Muñoz 54...really good get ..in the trade with san diego...and trammell and france..possible set up and closer guy

Erik Swanson 50.......swanny is not doing any better so far..has a high ..spin rate on the ball..but prob needs time at tacoma
Robert Dugger 30.......claimed off waivers from miami....dugger was a 2016..mariners draft choice.#18..traded to miami..
prob..will be at tacoma

Wyatt Mills 40...a sidewinding..submarine guy...he will be at seattle..at some point
Sam Delaplane 58..another..closer type that is not ready ...yet...he is wayyy good though

Juan Then 43....not at seattle..or..tacoma...i expect him to be at (HIGH A)..everett....to start with..but i will get into that later
he is on the 40 man

guys at tacoma..not on the 40 man..relief guys
Matt Magill36..................close
Gerson Bautista..................still working on it
Matt Festa67..........................same with matt
Roenis Elías..............L/L.................heeees baaack.....lol...nice
Moises Gomez.............................seems good

Jimmy Yacabonis..........................we will see..need a comeback
Drew Steckenrider......................needs a comeback as well
Paul Sewald........................................same

they have even more guys that i just dont think will make it....that is wayy enough anyway

so mariners..might have a hole at 2b.( at tacoma)......if ..long starts at the mariners
not a huge problem...easly fixable..with jedi

so..what if ..lets say..kirby..and williamson.and juan then .are doeing well at(high A everett)..and need to be moved..up to arkansas.....????
then that would move up Emerson Hancock56 and Sam Carlson..and one more pitcher to high A...mariners have enough pitchers to cover

but..they would still need to draft..some starters..prob 3..to be safe..so i will add that to my draft..of so far..for example

1..of
2collage..starter..pitcher
3..HS catcher
4 HS..pitcher
5 collage pitcher..starter
6 of
7collage pitcher..starter
8 HS pitcher
9 ss/2b
10HS pitcher

it goes fast..but all of these are needs for the mariners..imo...unless jedi does some trades..like to cover the outfield..at low A

but now i think about it 4 hs pitchers would be too many at AZL..im looking for 2 ..this year and 2 next year..and a HS catcher each year..as well
so
8 could change to

8 SS/2b as well
and 10 to
10..OF..cuz they would still need 1 more.lol
