I take it back. I've been listening to Deep Purple on and off since this morning. Though I'm still not a fan of Child in Time, I'm definitely mostly hot on Deep Purple, to the point of seeing them as probably the most underrated rock band. Is there a more iconic rock song than "Smoke on the Water"?
Not under-rated. Kids don't know them and old people like you are forgetting a lot of really great songs!

I just listened to the whole thing for the first time in a long time and it still holds up.

And the song Perfect Strangers is just amazing.
I remember Highway star from my racing days. Driving cross country I heard it over and over again.
If I ever assemble a list of road songs this is immediately on the list.
Imagine being 18 and made it to the pros and being all wound up and ready for the next race!

Top it off with Space Trucking!

I can close my eyes and remember Las Vegas to Salt lake City to Kansas.......

"a poll on radio station Planet Rock ranked them 5th among the "most influential bands ever".[15] The band received the Legend Award at the 2008 World Music Awards. Deep Purple (specifically Blackmore, Lord, Paice, Gillan, Glover, Coverdale, Evans, and Hughes) were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2016."

[[Richie Blackmore] "He is cited by publications such as Guitar World and Rolling Stone as one of the greatest and most influential guitar players of all time"

Not sure if you're a fan of 80's metal or not but Metal Church is one of my favorite metal albums of all time and they do a killer version of Highway star.

You might recall I quit listening to music in the 80's Boycotting disco!
I would consider this cover r*pe or at least assault!
Thanks for making me remember San Jose with acne faced long greasy haired kids with black (insert band name) T-shirts playing air guitar and listening to "metal music"

(see post 266)

But you actually made my point... They weren't in the R&R HOF until 2016?

Awesome. Love me some Deep Purple.
Saw them 3 times. Burlington, Montreal and Virginia Beach (With the Scorpions!)

I'll go with Hush, but there is no wrong answer when it comes to Purple.

Fitting time for Child in Time as it was a Cold War protest song.

Scorpions are a favorite of mine. I always thought be considered a "hair band" was a disservice to both them and Def Leppard. Don't get me wrong, being a hair band wasn't so much a bad thing but the whole scene got watered down by wannabees being sold down our throats.

Yeah I agree Biko for me.

Bono is fucking annoying, to the point where I would rather have every summer day filled with sweltering crotch rot than hear anything in relation to him. Plus the line " When I try and sleep at night I can only dream in red, the outside world is black and white with only one color dead" ( Pretty powerful line IMO)

Biko
