How would we lose Butler? He is restricted. No way BB does not tender him a 1st. I mean can NE really walk into next yr draft with 3 first rd picks? IMO, it would be a mistake to let Butler walk. He is young and gets better every year. Just pay the man before it's to late.

Also would not shock me at all to see Harmon more of a priority than Ryan. If you can keep Butler, DMC, Harmon, Rowe, Jones, and draft Peppers..LOL.... around for awhile, that would be great.

The ones in bold are the only FA's. Rowe, a second round pick (47) is on his rookie deal. This was his second season. I believe second round guys sign 4 year deals.

I agree with you.

Browns and Bears are the two main players right now. The Texans are also looking at JG.

Rumors are flying everywhere. Supposedly the Browns are intending to offer #12 and #51. That's a first and a second rounder in this year's draft. The Bears are looking to offer #3 and a 4th Round pick. The 49ers jumped in this week and they have #2.

Cleveland is a mess. They cut McCowen this week and their other QB. That's an indication that they will trade for JG or draft Watson. Cleveland fans do NOT want Watson. Another rookie that could be a Ryan Leaf or Johnny Manzeil. JG has shown he doesn't panic and beat the Cardinals and was on his way to beating the Dolphins when he got hurt. He just might have beaten the Bills if he hadn't separated his shoulder.

The Bears are ready to move on from Cutler and their closer to moving up in the standings and they really don't want a rookie. Once Cleveland's offer is known, they may come with #3 and a couple of players that BB may ask for.

The 49ers are whacked. They may be crazy enough to pull a Dolphins/Saints deal and upchuck their entire draft to get JG. Their new head coach still hasn't gotten the brown out of his BVDs after Super Bowl LI and would probably love to have a little NEP offense on his side.

I would love to get a 1st rounder... Is there a stud at #3 that is worth going for? I could see Belichick trading that down to get some more picks.

Oh I know. I was saying that would be a nice core of guys for the next 4 years.

If BB gets another 1st rd pick, I think he trades it for next yr. I have not followed the draft much yet, but I think this is a pretty weak class. I think OL is not very good this yr. I think this years draft is more of the skilled position players. I could be wrong.

Read somewhere where it looks like the tag will either go to HT or Marty, or none. Marty keeps posting videos to Twitter saying "No days off" and that he wants on more. I would really like to see him stay.

I'd like to see him stay as well. But if he's asking for Gronk $ or more I'm not signing him. The HT tag would be spendy but it may give NE time to work a long term deal. He's another player I'd like to see stay but I think he'll be asking too much. He is replaceable.

I agree, but it seems like he good with not breaking the bank. He seems to want to settle down and work on his books and foundations and he thinks Boston is a good place for that. He is a business man and a football player. That said, he deserves to be paid a tier below Gronk? He was hurt most of the year and was a beast blocking 1on1. I guess time will tell....

I heard he had bone spurs in his ankle most of the season. I hope he is back.

Love to have him stay but it's his best chance for the big bucks NE won't pay.
He will probably go for the money but keep his businesses in the Boston area because the workers are here.

Franchise Tag timeline has opened. Teams can use the franchise tag on any player who will become a free agent. The Free Agent market opens March 7 and the Franchise Tag option is over.

NESN reported that the Patriots will make offers to all 14 potential free agents prior to the FA season opening.

Patriots source reportedly said that the Patriots will not be offering the Franchise salaries for any position, but will offer fair and competitive salaries to every player. If HT and Bennett want top dollar, then there's a better than 50% chance they will not be playing in NE next year.

There are also rumors that some teams are prepared to offer Malcolm Butler and Logan Ryan $12M+ per for as many as 6 years. If that's true, then I think they'll be gone too. If the Patriots have $62M in CAP space, I can't see them giving up $45-$50M for four players and then trying to sign 10-11 more for $15-$17M. Doesn't make financial sense.

Rumors might say they won't use the tag but I think if ever there was a year to use it, this is the year. If they can't get a deal done tag either; HT, MB.

That is a very sorry looking list. A couple of younger guys with some potential but otherwise a lot of below average/over the hill type players. No one near the talent that Hightower is.

Well there is Mr. Chandler Jones:-)
Below average/over the hill players thrive in the BB system. Bring them on.

Bill won't tag either one. He's totally adverse to paying an ILB the same as a pass rushing OLB. The frinchise tag for any LB is approx. $15.6M and that's not anything that BB will pay for an ILB. The tag for a TE is approx. $11M. Think Bill will pay Bennett $3M more than Gronk?? HT turned down 4 years $40M before the season started. He's got 2 rings and wants Von Miller money. I think the Jets will offer him 6 years, $108M with $65M guaranteed. They'll have plenty of money now that their going to jettison Darrell Revis. Houston will offer Bennett 5 Years $55M with $35m guaranteed, bone spurs and all.
I don't think he'll use it. I was just saying this year with the amount of cap space if he wanted to keep someone around this would be the year.
As for MB I already stated I'd never give him Gronk $ as in long term. A tag you could, if you wanted to justify it by trying to get a long term deal done? MB talks out both sides of his mouth. Wants to get paid as a champion, yet wants to stay in NE. That's an oxymoron.

I don't for an instance think HT will be back. Thanks for providing the list. It would be interesting to kick the tires on Chandler Jones. See how he enjoyed his year in AZ?
As for ILB maybe Te'o or Minter would be someone to look at?

Well if we are looking for a replacement if Hightower walks out the door is more what I meant. Those OLB types that are meant more to get after the QB are in a different class and I don't think should all be grouped together. Same with the Franchise Tag becaues they are such different players.

And while I do think BB is good at getting the most out of players I don't think you will find anybody on that list that is comparable to Hightower.

BB will set his defense based on his players' skill set. My next post I addressed the ILBs I think would fit.
So much really depends on Brady/Grappollo. That will define what picks NE will have. If BB sees a player or two who can fit into his system inside or outside/DE? It will affect what he does or doesn't do with HT.
HTs price is already set. BB won't go over that. So now only time will tell. I'm betting HT is gone.

T'eo and Minter are 2 decent choices. They are no Hightower but decent.

And to me a price for a player is always fluctuating. Let's say BB doesn't see a decent replacement in either the draft or FA well maybe you are willing to up that amount or willing to go ahead and take the Tag price for a year knowing you have the cap space and just see what is available the next season.

Right now Hightower is making the smart decision. He can play a bit of the waiting game and get the tag or see if NE is willing to come up on their price. I mean I'm guessing that offer will still be available say FA is a day or 2 a way and Hightower would rather still stay in NE. I know NE doesn't usually play games like that a whole lot but Hightower is one of the few worth continuing talks with
