No doubt he was overpaid, no doubt at all. But I'd take him at 1-2 million. He's worth that.

Don't you think the Pens can do better. I would think any winger would be more than happy to play with Crosby or Malkin. Even if it were just one year like Hossa. The Pens are going to have a chance to win the cup. That alone would be appealing to any player I think. Sorry, I just think the Pens would be better off spending their money on somebody better.

I agree...but our funds say different. We have a lot of money tied up in our C's (which Drury technically is, hah), Top 4 D, and G. Nothing wrong with that, but it means you need underpaid guys to play above their heads. I just know that Drury can and will be had for cheap, and is probably gonna be one of the most affordable and talented guys out there. Unless a guy comes forward and wants to take a short contract for one year (which has happened to us before), Drury wouldn't be a bad idea. And, in general, the FA market is a bit dry for forwards, wingers at least (as it...always is). Top names out there are Richards (unless there's a miracle, and he magically wants to play on a team with far too many C's as is...not happening), Laich, Fleischmann, Jussi Jokinen, Tanguay (only name I'd like them to get really), and I think Gange is up too. Of those names, there are very few I think the Pens will get a legitimate shot at for cheap. I'd love a guy like Laich, but somehow I don't see him coming here unless he has a weird grudge against WASH. Hah. One thing we have going is that players saw Danny B, how he works and all, from 24/7...and they wanna play for him. I think that and a new arena (and...Sid and Geno) are HUGE draws. But sometimes that's not enough to leave millions on the table. It'll be interesting to see how Shero constructs this team.

Vrbrata is one I think the Pens may gander at...but I think it would take a big player coming TO Shero for anything big to get done.

I really think Drury just needs a change of scenery...and some talent on his line to work with, and he'll succeed. He's still a very hard worker and the talent is there...we've seen it.

He had a change of scenery when he went to the Rangers. He got to play for his favorite team when he was growing up and said he was trilled to get to play there. I don't think a move to Pitt or any other team would motivate him any more than what he wanted and got in that deal.

He is a great support player when he can be used to help support great players. He is a great penalty killer and when he had his success it was with a super team with great players. If you have mediocre years playing for the team you idolized as a kid even tho a team like Pitt has great players I don't see where you could expect any more from him.

Unless they could get him for a real cheap contract. His best days are behind him.

I always liked Drury. For $1 million, it would certainly be worth the gamble. Shero likes to target buy-outs.

Agreed. Always liked this guy. Seemed to have that knack for getting that big goal when you needed it. I dont think he fit in too well with the Rangers.

Some may disagree given his reputation for clutch play, but I think the pressure was too much. The guy had a ridiculous contract thrown at him, and I don't think anything short of 100+ points per year was going to make that contract look good, and I think it got to him.

I wouldn't mind him at $1M or so back in a Sabres uniform, given that a few of the experienced guys should be out the door in Buffalo this year, and some more youth coming up. They could use the experienced leadership.

That, and I could wear my Drury jersey again too :)

DO THEY HAVE THE MONEY TO DO THAT!?!?!?!?

By buying Drury out the Rangers actually save money. His contract will come off the books completely in two years.

The Rangers did this to give them cap space. They want Brad Richards.

Of course the easy answer would have been they paid Wade Reddon 5 million to play in the AHL last year. So of course they have the money to do this. They're the Rangers. When Slats makes a mistake they just give him more to blow.
