Jacob deGrom (5-2, 2.32) takes the mound for the Mets on Saturday after becoming the only pitcher to strike out at least 13 batters with no walks in five innings in his previous start. LHP Ken Waldichuk (0-2, 7.13) starts the afternoon game for Oakland.

Mets bats fall flat..Jake was ineffective...bullpen looked tired.
This late in the season is not good for that sort of crap.
The game we gained last night was given right back.
Another frustrating and unacceptable loss.

Mets got embarrassed 10-4 by an inferior opponent, and had no answers.

Trainer's Room...

Mets 2B Luis Guillorme exited after being plunked in the fourth. A knot in his arm developed.
CF Brandon Nimmo was held out of the lineup as a precaution after he returned Friday from a left quadriceps injury but is scheduled to play Sunday afternoon's series finale. Showalter didn't want to take a chance with Nimmo with the quick turnaround after a night game Friday, and the training staff expects that with the off day Monday he should be full strength by Tuesday.
All-Star RF Starling Marte has been hopeful of returning for a key series with the Braves next week as he works back from a non-displaced fracture of his right middle finger. He traveled back to New York on Saturday afternoon for further imaging tests.
Also going back early were starting pitchers Carlos Carrasco and Taijuan Walker.

Up Next....

Mets RHP Max Scherzer (10-4, 2.15 ERA), will start the series rubber game on Sunday afternoon.
He's coming off his 200th career win last week and faces the A's for the first time since May 27, 2014, while with Detroit.
The A's are sending LHP JP Sears (6-2, 3.58) to the mound to face the Mets for the first time.

Let's not panic, it's just one game. We still have the lead in the NL East. I know as Mets fans, we are used to our team choking in the late season, it's happened before. But bottom line, WE STILL LEAD THE NL EAST (and will after today, no matter what happens).

It all comes down to this upcoming weekend. Buck knows this, we know this. If we take two out of three at Truist Park, the division should be ours. These two upcoming off days are like manna from heaven, Buck can now line up his top 3 pitchers for this all important series. But make no mistake, our bullpen needs to be rested as well.

Nevertheless, it is muy importante that we knock out the Marlins in that 2 game mini series. We can't afford another slip-up like that recent Cubs gaffe (getting swept in all 3 games).

There's a reason why 2 of the 3 games this weekend are on national TV. Even casual fans are going to tune in to see the drama. But I am anything but a casual Mets fan.

No more drama in Oakie town now (11-1 score), hopefully the Mets can duplicate this offense at Citi come Tues and Wed.

The Mets have an off day on Monday before they welcome the Miami Marlins (63-90) to Citi Field for a short two-game set.
The probable starters for Tuesday are Pablo Lopez versus Carlos Carrasco, and Jesus Luzardo versus Taijuan Walker on Wednesday.

Just a heads up about Hurricane Ian --- obviously Atlanta won't take a direct hit, but there is significant rain projected for the entire weekend. A tentative plan I have seen elsewhere is play one game on Thurs, and a DH on Sunday. I doubt that happens though, from what I can see on Google Weather, it's a game on Friday, and a DH on Sunday.

Mets lose to Miami 6-4 and fall into a division tie for 1st with Atlanta.

(although technically for now they still hold the head to head tie breaker 9-7 over the Braves, and still have 3 more games remaining against them)

No one said it was gonna be easy.
I just wish they wouldn't make it more difficult than it needs to be.

The dirty lowdown...

Up Next...

The Mets will finish up the two-game series with Miami on Wednesday. Taijuan Walker (12-5, 3.53 ERA, 114 SO) will make his bid to be the Mets fourth starter in the postseason. Left-hander Jesús Luzardo (3-7, 3.57 ERA, 102 SO) will take the ball for the Marlins.
After Tuesday’s results, the Mets and Braves are tied for the division lead.
