Baez K'd (15 whiff)
McNeil grounded out.....Conforto moved to 3B....
Guillorme (PHing for Pillar??) walked....Almora in to PR.
Mets at the corners....2 outs...for Patty Maz (PHing for McCann)

No magic tonight.
Maz grounds out.

1-1 mid 10th
Mets should be ashamed of themselves.
Half of their 30 outs made so far have been by striking out.

Rojas shrugged.

Edwin Diaz on the hill.

Fish win it with a 2 out run scoring single in the 10th.
TBH....it shouldn't be blamed on Diaz.
The entire offense fell asleep early...and never bothered to show up.

Another deflating and avoidable loss.

2-1 final.

More pathetic platitudes and lame excuses from Rojas will surely follow.

I guess the silver lining, if we can call it that...is the Braves & Phils both losing tonight too.
But that was a golden opportunity to pull a game closer that went by the wayside and down the crapper.

Mets drop the middle game, 2-1 in 10.

Trainer's Room:

Mets RHP Noah Syndergaard (Tommy John surgery) has played catch the last couple of days at Citi Field after completing COVID-19 quarantine.

Up Next:

RHP Marcus Stroman (9-12, 2.93 ERA) will pitch the series finale on Thursday for the Mets against Marlins LHP Jesús Luzardo (3-3, 7.15).

Nice start to the Mets 7th inning....then...bam...reality time.

McCann's leadoff single turned into an out when he tried to stretch it into a double.
Then the next 2 batters whiffed. (That's 11 K's now)

Stro is out after giving up a 1out single.
Brad Hand takes over...

Game is now tied 2-2 on a 2 out ground ball to Hand who threw it into the OF for an E-1.
Conforto recovered it and threw to Baez at 2B to nail the batter for the 3rd out, after the runner on 3rd scored.

Heading to the 8th.

:L

Alonso tripled to leadoff the Mets 8th.
Baez went after the 1st pitch but grounded to short.
Pete held at 3rd.

JD Davis ground out to 3rd.
Pete still holding there.

Conforto gets IBB'd
Mets at the corners...2 outs.
McNeil PHing for Pillar...
Fish bringing in a LHP....

McNeil also grounds out to short.

Bupkis!

So....leadoff triple...then 3 straight at 'em ground ball outs by Mets "hitters"?
Not even so much as the usual obligatory sac fly rbi there by anyone??

I'm not making this shit up.

It's 2-2 for now.
Mid 8th.

Familia is coming in.

Right on cue....Familia gets 2 quick outs then falls apart...by allowing a solo HR with a meatball right down broadway.
Then gets the 3rd out on the very next pitch.

Mets down 3-2 heading to the 9th.

Rojas shrugs some more.

Mets 9th:
Smith K'd on 3 pitches. He now has the hat trickk. (12th Mets whiff tonight)
McCann grounded out.

Villar PHing for Almora also whiffed to end it. (13th K)

Mets lose 3-2 and give away yet another game they should've won...and drop below .500 again.

I guess Rojas' "discipline at the plate" request a few days ago is really sinking in, eh??

:rolleyes2:

He continues to shrug nonetheless.

I'm sure the upcoming subway series this weekend at Citi will turn out much better.....LOL

I shudder.

Final:
3-2...not the Mets..

Even with Philly losing too, there's no silver lining tonight like there was after last night's loss...because Atlanta won tonight.
Mets (70-71) are now 5 games back in the NL east..and 5 back for the 2nd WC race, with only 21 games to go.

Trainer's Room..
Mets C Tomás Nido (left thumb strain) could play in rehab games at Triple-A Syracuse this weekend.

Up Next..

Mets RHP Tylor Megill (2-4, 4.20) will start the opener of a three-game series against the New York Yankees Friday at Citi Field. LHP Jordan Montgomery (5-5, 3.47 ERA) is listed as the Yankees starter.

Arguably his best outing this year without question...

Mets take the subway series opener...10-3

The Wrap/Recap....

Mets drop the middle game, 8-7.

Someone on the team should tell Trevor May he's not on the Yankees and that it's okay to grow some facial hair.
Also..Baez giveth...but he also taketh away.
His untimely E-4 late in the game proved costly.

Up Next...

RHP Carlos Carrasco (1-2, 5.88) will be on the mound for the Mets in Sunday's rubber game finale.
The Yankees hadn't decided on a starter although LHP Andrew Heaney and RHP Clarke Schmidt seems the most likely options.
