Blackburn was scratched from Monday’s scheduled start in Toronto because of a sore lower back.

The Mets recalled Luisangel Acuña, the younger brother of Ronald Acuña Jr., before Saturday’s game against the Phillies.
Acuña was slotted in to start at shortstop in place of Francisco Lindor and batting ninth in his Major League debut.
The Mets’ 12th-ranked prospect, Luisangel Acuña was batting .258/.299/.355 with seven homers and 40 stolen bases in 131 games for Triple-A Syracuse.

In a corresponding move, the club optioned outfielder DJ Stewart.

Sept. 14: RHP Paul Blackburn (lower back) has spinal fluid leak
The Mets have shut down Blackburn, one of their most prominent Trade Deadline acquisitions, due to a spinal fluid leak in his mid-back. Team officials are uncertain when Blackburn may be able to pitch again, but president of baseball operations David Stearns cautioned that the injury is not as troubling as it might sound.
"This is not a long-term, scary health situation," Stearns said. "It sounds troubling, but [it's] clearly an unusual baseball injury, and that has led to the back discomfort that he felt and, progressively, got worse."
Blackburn, who hasn't pitched since taking a comebacker off his right hand on Aug. 23 in San Diego, was originally scheduled to return from the injured list this past Monday. Back discomfort subsequently delayed his return and resulted in additional testing, which revealed the spinal fluid leak. For as long as Blackburn is sidelined, Tylor Megill will continue to pitch in his rotation spot.

Sept. 14: SS Francisco Lindor remains day to day due to lower-back tightness
Lindor was out of Saturday's starting lineup after exiting Friday's 11-3 win over the Phillies due to lower-back tightness, but he was potentially available off the bench. The shortstop has appeared in all 147 of New York's games this season, but will need to appear at some point on Saturday if he wants to become the second Met to play in every game of a 162-game season.

REMEMBERING ED:

The Mets aired a video tribute and held a moment of silence before the game in honor of Ed Kranepool, who died last week at 79.
His grandson, Ethan, threw out a ceremonial first pitch to Kranepool’s son, Keith.

Ed Kranepool, a New York City native, debuted with the Mets at age 17 in 1962 and played his entire career with the team. He holds the franchise record for games played (1,853) and ranks in the top five in hits, doubles and RBI.
