Mets win the 2nd game...10-1
Megill was on point again ( 6 IP - 1 R - 2 H - 2 BB -4 K...(94 pitches)
Acuña hit his 1st HR ( 3 for 4 & 2 rbi)...Alonso hit his 33rd HR (3 for 5 & 5 rbi) & Alvy also went deep (#9)

Box Score:

Trainer's Room:

Mets SS Francisco Lindor was feeling better, manager Carlos Mendoza said, and still hopes to return this week.
RHP Kodai Senga (left calf strain) threw another bullpen and went through some fielding drills. The team will wait to see how he feels Wednesday before announcing whether Senga's next step will be live batting practice, a minor league rehab game or another bullpen session. Senga hopes to come off the 60-day injured list next week — he becomes eligible on Sept. 25 — to provide even a few innings before the regular season ends. OF Brandon Nimmo was rested against the left-hander.

On Deck:

Mets LHP Jose Quintana (9-9, 3.91 ERA) makes his 30th start of the season when he faces Washington LHP DJ Herz (4-7, 3.70) in the series finale Wednesday night.

This kid is a baller...

Mets win the finale 10-0 to complete the sweep.
The Mets sent 12 batters to the plate and put up 9 runs in the 4th.
It was their biggest inning since a 10-run fourth against Toronto on Sept. 11, 2020.
Quintana was solid once again. ( 7 IP - 0 R - 2 H - 2 BB - 4 K...90 Pitches )
New York finished 11-2 against the Nationals this season, its best record against one opponent since going 10-1 versus the LA Dodgers in 1988.

Box Score:

Trainer's Room:

Mets SS Francisco Lindor (sore back) missed his third straight game but played catch and ran Wednesday afternoon, and could see action this weekend against the Phillies.
Rookie RHP Christian Scott (right elbow) will undergo Tommy John surgery with an internal brace added next week and will likely be out until 2026. Scott was 0-3 with a 4.56 ERA in nine starts before being injured in his final start July 21.
RHP Kodai Senga (strained left calf), eligible to come off the 60-day injured list next Wednesday, plans to pitch for Triple-A Syracuse this weekend and could still pitch as an opener for the Mets over the final five days of the regular season.
RHP Paul Blackburn (spinal leak in back) threw for the first time since making a rehab start Sept. 3 and hopes to pitch for the Mets next week.
INF Brett Baty (broken left index finger) went 0 for 4 with Syracuse in his first game action since Aug. 22. Mendoza said Baty could be a candidate for a recall by the Mets.

Up Next:

On Thursday the Mets welcome the Phillies to New York for what is currently the most important series of the season.
Mets RHP Luis Severino (10-6, 3.77 ERA) starts in the opener of a pivotal four-game series against the NL East-leading Philadelphia Phillies, who counter with ex-Mets RHP Taijuan Walker (3-6, 6.29).

Update...

Sept. 19:
SS Francisco Lindor (back tightness) sits out fourth straight game
Lindor was out of the Mets' lineup for a fourth consecutive night on Thursday and remains day to day, but he is making tangible progress on the road back from a bout of lower back tightness. A day after playing catch, Lindor stayed indoors and performed mobility exercises and worked in the weight room to help his back feel better, according to manager Carlos Mendoza.

On Monday, following a clean MRI on his lower back, Lindor estimated that he would return in 2-5 days. Mendoza indicated Wednesday that Lindor must complete a full slate of baseball activities before returning, which he hasn't yet done.

Lindor originally tweaked his back last Friday night in a win over the Phillies, then sat out Saturday's game and was forced out of Sunday's 2-1 loss to Philadelphia after just one inning. He hasn't played since, with Jose Iglesias and Luisangel Acuña splitting shortstop duties in his absence.

Mets drop the 2nd game badly...12-2

Trainer's Room:

Mets SS Francisco Lindor (sore back) has missed five straight games and played only one inning in the past seven. He received a numbing injection for the facet joints on each side of the spine. “Trying to do whatever it takes to come back as soon as I can. Without it,” Lindor said, “it didn’t feel like I could get back sooner rather than later.” The star shortstop ran, played catch and took a couple rounds of batting practice from the right side. Before the game, Mendoza said if Lindor felt good enough to get through baseball activities, it's possible he could return to the lineup Saturday.
RHP Kodai Senga (strained left calf) will throw no more than two innings and 30-35 pitches in a rehab outing Saturday for Triple-A Syracuse. If all goes well, he could come off the 60-day injured list and be available to pitch in some role Friday at Milwaukee. “Ultimately we'll have to make a judgment call on what's best for the team,” president of baseball operations David Stearns said.
C Francisco Alvarez and OF Tyrone Taylor were rested.

On Deck:

Mets LHP Sean Manaea (11-5, 3.26 ERA) faces lefty Ranger Suárez (12-7, 3.13 ERA) at 4:10 p.m. ET in the penultimate regular season game at Citi Field. Manaea is 0-1 with a 6.52 ERA in two starts vs. the Phillies this year. Suárez is 2-0 with a 1.69 ERA in two outings versus the Mets. The game will be broadcast on SNY and MLB Network.

Mets bounce back to take the 3rd game....6-3
Manaea went 7 innings. Diaz earned a 4 out save.
Alvarez (#11) & Acuña (#3) went deep.

Box Score:

Trainer's Room:

Mets RHP Kodai Senga pitched a hitless inning with a walk and two strikeouts for Triple-A Syracuse in his first rehab outing since straining his left calf in his season debut on July 26. He threw eight of 15 pitches for strikes.
Senga missed the first half of the season because of a capsule shoulder strain that had sidelined him since spring training.
RHP Paul Blackburn (spinal fluid leak in back) won’t pitch during the rest of the regular season, Mgr. Carlos Mendoza said.

On Deck:

The Mets’ last regular-season home game will be on Sunday night as they send RHP Tylor Megill ( 4-5, 4.07) to the mound.
He'll face off against former Met, Phillies RHP Zack Wheeler (16-6, 2.57) The game will be televised nationally on ESPN at 7:15 p.m. EDT and broadcast on WCBS 880.

Mets win their regular season home finale 2-1 over Philly and take the series 3-1.
NY is now tied with AZ for the 2nd WC spot...3 GB of SD for the top spot...and 2 up on ATL for the 3rd wildcard.
Only 6 games to go in the reg season.... 3 @ Atlanta.... & 3 @ Milwaukee....all of which will be extremely important.

Box Score:

Trainer's Room:

Mets RHP Kodai Senga will not pitch again during the regular season after feeling tightness in his right triceps during a minor league rehab outing on Saturday.
SS Francisco Lindor (back) missed his seventh straight game but participated in more intense pregame workouts. The Mets hope he can return Tuesday.

Up Next:

Mets have Monday off, and they'll begin a crucial three-game series at Atlanta on Tuesday.
RHP Luis Severino (11-6, 3.78) will be the Mets starter.
The Braves start RHP Spencer Schwellenbach (7-7, 3.62)
First pitch is at 7:20 pm ET and will be broadcasted on SNY and Mets Radio 880.

Mets drop the opener 5-1.
Sevy had a bad night.
Offense was cold.

Lindor:

Mets Star shortstop Francisco Lindor missed his eighth straight game with a sore back. He worked out beforehand and was available to pinch hit. Lindor was on deck when the game ended, and Mendoza said the switch-hitter “could be in play for (Wednesday).” Lindor had a bone scan Monday that revealed no structural damage to his back.

On Deck:

Mets LHP David Peterson (9-3, 3.08 ERA) is the starter on Wednesday night as NY looks to bounce back in the middle game.
Atlanta’s starter will be LHP Chris Sale (18-3, 2.38 ERA). SNY will air the game at 7:20 p.m.

The next two games however are up in the air given the impending weather involved with Hurricane John approaching the area.

*And there are talks with the MLB offices monitoring the situation to move the Wednesday game back a few hours earlier in hopes of avoiding a possible double header makeup on Monday after the end of the season...so the Mets will not have to fly back to Atlanta after their series in Milwaukee on Sunday.
