Mets lose the finale 1-0..and split the series 2-2
Quintana deserved a much better fate for his solid 7 IP.
Mets bats went silent...only getting 1 measly hit.

They will get their first look at Pirates rookie phenom, right hander Paul Skenes (4-0, 2.07 ERA), who has struck out 70 in 52 1/3 innings.

Mets drop the opener in embarrassing fashion...14-2
Looks like they've finally hit a wall in July after playing great throughout most of June.
The BP is a total mess which has accounted for a bunch of the snafus and faceplanting.

On Deck:

The Mets hope lefty David Peterson (3-0, 3.51 ERA) can help snap their three-game losing streak in the second game of the four-game series at PNC Park. Lefty Bailey Falter (4-6, 3.87 ERA) will start for the Pirates. Game time is 4:05 p.m. ET and it will air on SNY.

Mets bounce back to take the series' 2nd game 5-2.
The return of Edwin Diaz gave the BP a huge lift and secured the win.

I really think the Mets should be the team that gives Trevor Bauer a chance. IMO his pitching skills were never in question, he just had the off field stuff, but I don't see that as any kind of problem at all, enough time has passed. He can be signed for cheap and may really help the Mets fight for a wildcard spot. I think he'd be so grateful that he would even accept a bullpen spot which the Mets desperately need.

We'll see what Stearns, but more importantly what Cohen thinks about that possibility.
If I had to choose...I'd be at 50-50...but lean no....but much of that would also depend on the money and the terms.
Perhaps a short term deal until the end of the season and then a possible invite to ST?

Mets take game 1....7-5
They're now back to .500 again. (45-45)
Quintana had another solid outing
7 IP...0 R..1 H..5 K..1 BB (103 pitches)
They had to hang on late...because of what else...more BP struggles. (sigh)

Box score:

Trainer's Room:

Mets RHP Kodai Senga tossed 2 2/3 scoreless innings of two-hit ball for Triple-A Syracuse in his second minor league rehab start.
Sidelined all season by a shoulder injury, the right-hander threw 52 pitches against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, a New York Yankees affiliate. He struck out three and walked two.

RHP Sean Reid-Foley (shoulder impingement) played catch from 120 feet and hopes to throw a bullpen in the next two or three days.

On Deck:

Luis Severino
(5-3, 3.82 ERA) will look to rebound from his worst start of the season. He gave up seven earned runs last Friday in Pittsburgh.
He faces lefty Patrick Corbin (1-8, 5.49 ERA), who entered Tuesday with the highest ERA in the majors of 73 qualified starters.
