After all conference title games are played. I can see 6-7 teams all making a case for a shot at a national title. No less than 5.
Probably 1 or 2. OSU has a pretty damn good shot. And by "finish" I'm assuming you mean finish the regular season - not the post season.
I mean before any bowl games are played. I think at least five teams will make a claim that their team should play for the title.
OP and title contradict ... if 1 or less are undefeated, all 1 loss teams theoretically have a shot. After all conference title games are played. I can see 6-7 teams all making a case for a shot at a national title. No less than 5.
Well, Louisville laid an egg. Took care of one unbeaten. An Iowa win over OSU would cause some crazy shit to happen.OP and title contradict ... if 1 or less are undefeated, all 1 loss teams theoretically have a shot.
FWIW, here are the number of undefeated teams the last decade:
2012 - 1
2011 - 1
2010 - 2 (not counting TCU in the MWC)
2009 - 3 (not counting TCU in the MWC)
2008 - 0 (not counting BSU and Utah)
2007 - 0 (not counting Hawaii)
2006 - 1
2005 - 2
2004 - 3
Unusual this year is Louisville and OSU with incredibly weak schedules. Almost guarantees 2.
Bama has LSU and then the SECCG.
Oregon has OrSU, Stanford, UCLA, then PACCG.
Baylor and TTech play each other, so there goes 1. They both have the heart of their Conf schedule to play.
Clemson and FSU play each other, so there goes 1. They both have tough SEC games at end of year, and a Conf CG, as well as other somewhat tough IC games.
At most I see 5 ... far more likely 3 (OSU, Louisville, Bama/Oregon/ACC).
If Bama wins out they are in. If Oregon OR ACC win out, they are in. If Oregon AND ACC win out, that's going to be tough ... SOS and East Coast bias could swing ACC way over Oregon.
BUT, if we have learned anything over the years, it is way too early to try and play this game. Hell, Miami almost lost to UNC who got curb-stomped by ECU ... meaning anything can happen.

Bama (getting stronger) However scariest game to me is @Auburn; seen this before/they are improving and dangerous with that offense. We will win by pulling away at the end but it will be more competitive than the experts think.
Ohio St (schedule) seriously? When Michigan who could have 3 losses, 2 of which to Akron Zips and a bad UConn team and struggled against basically everyone, is your toughest game left; wow! Who has their toughest been? Northwestern? Basically SEC's version of Vandy or Wisconsin?
Wisconsin was their toughest game to date. Wisconsin brings a power game and it was a good win for Ohio St.
