The Los Angeles Clippers plan to formally introduce Doc Rivers as their new head coach Wednesday, according to the Boston Herald.
Citing a source close to the coach, the Herald reported that Rivers will fly to Los Angeles on Tuesday before signing his contract Wednesday morning in the presence of Clippers owner Donald Sterling.
There was no indication if Rivers would address the Boston media before flying to Los Angeles.
The completion of the deal that sent Rivers to the Clippers from the Boston Celtics was delayed Monday night because the longtime coach and his representatives were still negotiating the language of his contract, sources told ESPNBoston.com's Jackie MacMullan.
Sources confirmed on Sunday that the Clippers will sign Rivers to the three-year, $21 million contract. The Boston Celtics, who agreed to release Rivers from the remaining three years and $21 million left on his current contract, will receive a 2015 first-round draft pick as compensation in the deal.
Rivers coached the Celtics to a league championship in 2008 and an appearance in the NBA Finals two years later. Boston reached the playoffs in each of the past six seasons under Rivers, winning five consecutive Atlantic Division titles from 2007-08 to 2011-12.
In Los Angeles, Rivers will replace Vinny Del *****, who was not offered a new contract after the Clippers were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs following a 56-win regular season.
