I feel bad for the guy honestly. He never lived up to his potential, finally does and then gets popped. But I also don’t give two cents if someone is taking “PED’s”

Comp for Gilbert?

If this guy
is worth $28.3 million a year for 6 years, guaranteed, then we can go ahead and kiss Kirby and Gilbert goodbye now.

And it also begs the question: if the Red Sox were going to throw that much money at Crochet, then why didn't they just pull the trigger on the trade for Castillo who would have been about $4 million a year cheaper and would have been a four-year commitment rather than 6 years?

The popular BaseballNutHistory X (formerly Twitter) account noted that Devers’ 15 strikeouts have come over 19 at-bats. On the other hand, Gwynn only struck out 19 times in 535 at-bats during the 1995 season.

I'm not totally sold Gilbert and Kirby are gone. Yes ownership refuses to spend on FA's but I feel like in house FA's like Kirby/Gilbert they will spend to keep.

So he can opt out of his deal a year after his FA eligibility? I think I’m doing that math right
I am not sure I understand that. He would be a free agent if he opts out regardless would he not?

I thought Gilbert would be a $30M per year pitcher. I have no clue if this changes that. Kirby is far less in my opinion.

Crochet being younger and on the upswing vs older Castillo on his downswing would be my guess.

That’s the way I read it since he is under club control until the opt out? So they just gave him a crap load of money when they didn’t need to. I mean good for him, just weird there is an opt out on an extension.

I think Gilbert signs and Kirby is traded. IMO no way does Cal sign his extension if Logan isn’t going to as well. If they can deal Castillo this offseason, with Haniger, Garver and Polanco’s deal (possibly JP too) that’s plenty of money to sign Gilbert and a FA.

I agree especially with the M's trading Kirby. I have never seen him as a long-term Mariner. Not because of talent, but he just never seemed like a Mariner. He always seemed like a guy with one foot out the door.

Divish says the Orioles want him bad cause Jim Palmer evidently loves him. The Mariners and Orioles match up perfectly for a trade but who knows

They do match up perfectly, but unfortunately Hancock sucks so bad we would be screwed at the #5 spot. But if we could get Holliday and Mayo in the deal, I would still do it and then use some of our prospects to get an SP from another team.
