Jose Dicen of the Listin Diario reports that authorities in the Dominican Republic raided two homes on Tuesday in an effort to find Wander Franco.
Franco was not found during the raids. Dicen notes that the Office of the Attorney for Children and Adolescents in Santo Domingo is looking for the 22-year-old infielder for allegedly having a relationship with an underage woman in Puerto Plata. There had been some speculation that Franco may avoid charges altogether after the opted to return to the Domincan Republic in early December — as it’s unlikely he would’ve returned there if there was threat of arrest or other legal entanglement. Franco remains on administrative leave and is still under investigation by Major League Baseball. This seemingly doesn’t bode well for his chances of playing in 2024.
Well damn. I was going to joke that if the Mariners took on his salary they could get Arozorena and Parades for basically free.

Giotto -Red Sox - 2 years/$38.5 million
Flexen - White Sox - 1 year/!.75 million

Once again, I am perplexed as to how MLB franchises evaluate players on the free agent market.

In an offense-neutral stadium, Flexen can give you about a 4.20 ERA in 160 IPs over 25-28 starts. By today's standards, that seems to be worth about $12-14 million a year.

Braves acquired LHP Chris Sale and cash considerations from the Red Sox for INF Vaughn Grissom.
The deal is now official. Sale departs the Red Sox, who are paying the majority of the $27.5 million left on the final year of his contract, to fortify Atlanta’s formidable starting rotation. The 34-year-old southpaw has been plagued by injuries the last few years, but has been an effective starter, when healthy.

Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports the Reds and free agent right-hander Frankie Montas are in agreement on a one-year, $16 million contract.
There were rumors swirling throughout the offseason regarding a potential reunion between the Yankees and Montas, but he’s decided to take his talents to Cincinnati instead. The 30-year-old righty has been plagued by persistent shoulder issues, which limited him to just 20 starts over the last two seasons combined between Oakland and New York. There’s some fantasy intrigue here given his previous success, especially in deeper mixed leagues, but it’s an extremely tough landing spot from a park factors standpoint. Given his recent health issues, he’s a borderline top-100 starting pitcher heading into 2024 fantasy drafts.

The Mariners should have been in on Vaughn Grissom. Red Sox won that trade easily. Grissom is going to be very good. .330 BA at AAA last year and only 22 years old.

I am hoping that he gets flipped for Woo. Just a hope, but it fits both needs.

According to a baseball source, the Red Sox have told at least one free agent target that they need to shed more payroll before pursuing him as aggressively as they want to.

This so far seems to be a very boring offseason. Dodgers and Braves have pulled so far ahead, which I know doesn’t mean much since neither won the WS the past two years but still. Yeah the Yankees got Soto but he isn’t going to put them ahead of the Orioles or even a healthy Rays team. The Cards, Reds and Royals have spend money but they aren’t significantly better.

This is as boring of an offseason as I can remember. I mean the Mariners have these all the time, but for 90% of the rest of the league to do the same is just nuts.

With how pissed all of us Mariners fans are, can you imagine being a fan of the Cubs, Mets or Red Sox…I’d say the Angels but I don’t believe they actually have fans. None of the clubs that have Dodgers money have spent money. Even the trade market is boring besides the Dodgers and Braves trading for guys who will probably have 10 starts combined, there really hasn’t been a big move.

Edit, I forgot Soto, but again that doesn’t move the needle for the Yankees.

This might kill any deal with Mariners...not that there was one.
