Wow. This is probably the best possible roster they could have come up with.

No speed, no defense, bat attitude and 3 tough right handed pitchers.....bye Guillen, I'm sure he's taking this well, lol.

So Rowand gets the nod in CF tonight with Burrell in LF and Torres in RF due to his success against Lowe? Then Ross gets the start in right with Schierholtz as a defensive replacement that will bounce Ross over to left for Burrell in the later innings? I guess Guillen's injuries weren't healing as quickly as it seemed.

No compaints from me on this roster. Rowand definetly earned a spot with that big homer the other day. Plus he has good stats vs Atlanta's pitching.

No complaints from me either. I'm not a fan of Rowand but I rather him than Guillen at this stage of the game. He brings much more to the plate when looking at things on a game by game basis.

Curious - does this decision cover all of the post season or just this particular series?

I think more likely Ross is the starting RF and will move over to LF when Schierholtz comes in late for Burrell.

Hopefully someone will correct me if I'm wrong. That said, as far as I understood, it's on a series by series basis.

Thats correct . The next round they can change the roster , probably Runzler instead of Mota for the Lefties on the Phillies roster if we get there .

Rowand being on the roster means he starts Game 1 & 3 vs Lowe & Hudson .

I'm surprised because Rowand's started maybe once or twice since the all star break , now he's starting 2 playoff games , I'm ok w/ it just surprised .

This should be the lineup tonight

Torres RF
Sanchez 2B
Huff 1B
Posey C
Burrell LF
Uribe SS
Sandoval 3B
Rowand CF
Timmy P

There's no emotion. None. Just the pretense of it. The words, the gesture, the tone of voice, everything else is the same, but not the feeling. It all seemed to change on July 1st.

Is that your guess or did you read that somewhere? I won't be too shocked if Rowand starts, although I'd prefer Ross. It just seems a leap to assume that because he's on the roster he's starting. I mean Ross also has pretty decent lifetime success vs. Lowe and he ended the season hot (not just one swing of the bat).

Exactly. For Game 2 (and would be the case tonight if Lowe weren't starting). Was that not clear in my post?

Stop trying to rationalize everything, will ya? Let's face it, we have a mystery on our hands! Who, or what, are making these decisions? There's no emotion. None. Just cold stark calculation.

This is my guess .

Why would Bochy put Rowand on the roster because he hits these 2 guys really good and then put him on the bench to not face the only 2 guys in MLB that he gets good at bats against .

If Rowand's not starting , then maybe Guillen's banged up .

** I want Ross in the lineup over Rowand **

No that was clear. I was saying that I think it's more likely that Ross starts tonight too and every other game this series. I mean I'm sure they'll take Rowand's lifetime success vs. Lowe into account but Bochy is also a believer in "riding the hot hand" and Ross been hot the past 3 weeks (.395/.439/.711 = 1.150 OPS in his last 41 PAs since mid September).

Jinkies, Velma! Who's behind this mystery? Better give Scooby a Scooby Snak so he can help solve the case!

Or maybe once they decided that Ross had earned the RF job over Guillen they decided that Rowand would be better for the bench too because he gives them more flexibility.

You're assuming Rowand is only on the roster because of his success against Lowe and Hudson. I'm not sure that's the case.

Gotcha. I hope Bochy is thinking that way, too. I'm also hoping that the Giants are looking into retaining Ross' services for next year.

Does Zito get to hang out in the dugout and root for his "teammates?" If so, is he allowed to put on his uniform? Would any of you guys think you'd be too proud to sit in a dugout for a series that you can't be used in? Would you get a box or watch from home?

I think I'd like to be there, if it's allowed, but then again, I'd like to be there any day. :).
