So my prediction for expansion is for the 2017 season to celebrate the hundredth anniversay of the NHL the owners will divide about 1.25 to 1.5 Billion between them
By then the Hurricanes will have moved to Portland the Panthers to Seattle and the Coyotes to Las Vegas abnd they can then announce the new teams in GTA and QC

Arizona Coyotes @ArizonaCoyotes
BREAKING: #Coyotes announce agreement to sell 51 percent of the Arizona Coyotes franchise to Andrew Barroway.

“This is truly a dream come true for me and my family,” said Barroway. “I am extraordinarily grateful for the opportunity of a lifetime and look forward to working and solidifying a strong partnership with the Club’s current ownership group.

“As a group we are committed to serving our fans with a new level of excellence and our collective goal is to put a competitive team on the ice every season and, one day, win the Stanley Cup.”

I notice he didn't say where the team would be when they win the Stanley Cup :D

when does the out clause kick in?

Coyotes report large fiscal year monetary losses | Puck Daddy - Yahoo Sports

---------------
The Arizona Coyotes have reported a total operating loss of $34.831 million according to Fox Sports Arizona. The Coyotes gave their numbers to the city of Glendale on Friday.

That’s a lot of money, and doesn't sound super great for the Coyotes, whose ‘out-clause’ can be triggered if Arizona reaches or exceeds $50 million.

----------------

oh!

Whichever city gets the Coyotes is going to have one fucking hell of a team in three years. I don't think there's ever been a farm this stacked, and that's without the guys they draft this summer and next.

oh!

The five year out clause kicks in three years from now. I guess that means I'm running out of time to see a game at Jobing.com er Gila River (the arena looks beautiful and based on some pics I've seen plenty of good seats are still available).

It's almost like the NHL is setting this team up to win the Cup or at least have a deep playoff run where ever they may end up in three years. Probably Vegas.

From jstew's link:

I asked our finance director...if the hockey team packed up and left the next day, what would be the impact, and the answer was an $8.5 million windfall profit for us," Hughes said. "We increased sales tax to the citizens to cover this (arena management deal). We have needs in law enforcement and our fire department that we can't fund. We had to put off purchasing of new pumpers for the fire department. We have three libraries in Glendale and all of their hours have been cut way back."

Always like when a city puts a professional sports team before police and fire departments :L

I have a feeling that long after we are all dead and gone - this thread and that franchise in that location will still be going on.

I can't see it lasting much longer. Even the most faithful NHL execs appear to be accepting of its failure. The players union and owners are going to start pushing for teams that aren't making money to be moved. They can't keep ignoring the revenue potential of other cities while teams bleed money.

Did you just challenge Gary Bettman to a stupid competition?

Because I'm pretty sure you don't stand a chance.

Rick Westhead @rwesthead Glendale councillors say audit of Coyotes/arena ordered June 3, 2014. Expect results in 2 weeks, will decide moves (if any) based on results
