Mayor Jerry Weiers said, “There’s been no decision made by the council, so right now, that’s all I can tell you.”

Acting City Attorney Nicholas DiPiazza said city staff members will continue to negotiate with Renaissance. “This is still a very fluid situation,” he said. “I think an agreement can be reached very shortly or perhaps not.

Well; at least now we have a definitive time frame to go by until we have a resolution.

Serious question because I don't know - other than the football stadium, what's out there? Do they have convention centers, malls, casinos, Amusement parks, ANYTHING?

- movie theater
- huge gun store (Cabella's?)
- about 5 hotels
- a bunch of restaurants/ pubs / bars
- a few clothing stores
- the In n Out burger was pretty close, too.

the waitress at the YardHouse said that the football fans don't spend anything in the pub, because they tailgate instead.

Hey now, Cabella's is more than guns. You can also get camouflage lingerie and buckets of deer urine.

So it's not close enough for the majority of people to get to easily, business people aren't already nearby, and there is nothing that makes making a day out of it worthwhile.

Wonder why it failed.

Some people make a day out of Cabella's or Bass Pro.

I don't think too many of those are the ones going to hockey games though.

They just built one here in Columbus and it's like a redneck Disneyworld. When it opened, they did news stories on it and people had come from like Tennessee and Illinois to go. For a store. There is one in West Virginia that we pass on the way to Maryland. It is noted by a highway sign listing it as a "Tourist Attraction". I am not making that up. The same notation as Amusement parks, Historical sights and natural wonders.

It's not fair, Cincinnati is basically northern Kentucky and they get an Ikea. We get the Camo Hootenanny.

“For a long time I thought the team is not viable in Phoenix and it is certainly viable in Seattle,” Zimbalist said. “They’ve been trying to make it work in Glendale now for three years. They haven’t been able to find a situation that works. That’s because the situation doesn’t work.

“It’s not economically feasible to have a team down there. It’s costing the other owners in revenue sharing, loss at the gate and media revenue. Seattle is a good choice for several reasons, but most importantly there’s investors who have stepped up and want to move a team there.”

Actually, it's four years, but who's counting? Also, I'm still not sold on Seattle even though I would like them to get a NHL team.

I sure as hell wouldn't move a team to Seattle without a new arena at least being built, if not finished first, but with as backwards as the NHL brass is, I have no doubt in my mind they'll approve it when the Phoenix situation falls apart one last time.

From the linked article:

To bridge [the] $8.5 million gap, the two parties have negotiated revenue streams that will theoretically benefit both sides. The city will get a cut of parking, which will no longer be free for Coyotes fans.

You have the 2nd lowest attendance average in the league, & now you want to charge more (by way of parking fees) to those folks who do show up?

Sounds like a great plan to me. :L

I know that you're in a tough spot, but maybe you should look at better marketing efforts first? - Just sayin'.

So the 2 free tickets with a case of Bud Light isn't a good enough marketing effort for you?

Kypreos chimes in:

Nick Kypreos ‏@RealKyper 4h
Hearing Glendale council will not approve 15M cash demand by RSE group 2 manage #Coyotes arena. RSE asked for 15M to help secure #125m loan.

Nick Kypreos ‏@RealKyper 3h
Council believes debt created by team is so gr8 that team is all but guaranteed to fail + move shortly because of loses created by no equity

Nick Kypreos ‏@RealKyper 3h
#NHL experiencing issues caused by debt loads on some clubs like #Devils. Seattle appears not to b option as rink won't be ready til 2014-15

30 strong and vibrant franchises, right Gary?

That's the biggest question...what city can take on a team RIGHT NOW?

Toronto could easily take a second team, but I don't see that happening.

Nope, not when the league is already counting on a half billion dollars on expansion fees. Kansas City has a spanky new arena, but they don't seem to want a NHL team. Key Arena is a temporary solution until Seattle builds a new arena, but they want a firm commitment of a NBA team before construction starts. Quebec City continues building their new arena. I guess a team could play out of the Colisee, but that screws up the NHL realignment plans (unless they give Phoenix/Quebec the Winnipeg treatment)

Looking more and more like we'll have 29 teams next season, as the (whatever the former Coyotes organization will be named) are 'mothballed', pending the completion of their new home.

they will play next season Im sure of it. unless the NHL has been working on something else for a while now

\also

I am in Indianapolis in July for a convention that my wife is going to. Whats cool in the downtown (assuming you have lived or live there judging by your name and Logo :D)
