you know the crazy thing here is that I would love a team in VEgas. I dont think Id ever take it seriously but how fucking fun would it be to do road trips there. holy hell would I have a good time and I would go to every game I could when Im in vegas which is genrally 3 times a year during hockey season I would probably add all canuck trips as well

Exactly the same reasons I would be down for a trip to Vegas Matty...

Casino Niagara / Buffalo.

And those are two places that can use the tourism dollars :)

Jamison misses lease deadline to buy Coyotes

"To the Arizona's sports and hockey fans, and the City of Glendale, we appreciate your patience and diligence," Jamison said. "We wish everything was completed today as we worked extremely hard on the deal. However, we have taken significant steps to keep the Coyotes in Glendale for the long-term. I've seen first-hand the wonderful support Arizona hockey fans have provided the Coyotes and we will continue our efforts to keep the NHL in Arizona."

Whatever you say, Greg.

Lebrun was wacky on the radio yesterday afternoon ... he said he knows of 2 parties that will come forward with offers that have the finances to get a deal done ... as long as the city is willing to give them the sweetheart deal they offered jamison

problem is the new mayor says that type of deal wont be coming from him

/Lebrun also said there will most definitely be 2 teams in GTA within next 5 years

his rumour du jour was one of Bell/Rogers will sell back its stake in the leafs and then own the new Toronto based team

so for example Bell would own the Leafs and Rogers would own the new team (or vice versa)

/will be great for national coverage of the other cdn teams :L

Kings and Avs have a presseason game in Vegas every year (2013 excluded) and it is a lot of fun. 3 days of hockey fans at the MGM and a couple of bars. I dont see 41 games a year doing much better than Phoenix after a couple of years. Two tickects for the price of one deals from the hotels wont help. The shows do ok because (little sexist here) the wives want to go on a date between the drinking and gambling. The team that played there would feel like the aay team every night. I would go to a Kings game every other year or maybe a playoff game. I know last year Kings fans behaved like Canadian fans. It was cheaper to fly to Phoenix , buy tickets, and rent a room for the night than to just get home game tickets.

whatever happens ... Glendale is fucked

from freidman Keeping Coyotes in Phoenix is proving tough sell | Hockey | CBC Sports

While watching NHL games Thursday night, I flipped through the Jobing.com "Arena Calendar" for 2013. Guess how many events are booked in the arena that have nothing to do with the Coyotes? No peeking! Ready?

Nine.

That's five days of the Arizona high school basketball championships, two nights of Taylor Swift, one night of Bon Jovi and one night of The Who.

According to the website, there is not one event booked in the facility from May 30 until January 31, 2014. Even if this is some kind of formatting error, I've been told Glendale is not exactly a hot concert stop.

I can understand why Weiers didn't like the sweetheart deal Jamison couldn't close, but is letting the arena become a ghost town the right financial decision for the city? From 3,000 kilometres away, I have no idea. Maybe it is, but that's what Glendale is looking at if the Coyotes leave.

Drives me insane when politicians keep trying to prop up something that should just die a natural death.

When I lived in Maryland, every election there were all these measures designed to prop up and support the "Horse Racing" industry.

When the public generally turns their back on something, it's time to just let it go. It drove me nuts to watch all this tax money get wasted on something that 90% of the public didn't give one shit about.

Phoenix as an NHL city, and an arena too far away from people are both failures. No amount of political wrangling is going to change any of that. Just let it go.

If people wanted to go out to Glendale, the arena would be booked. Simple as that.

agree with everything, except attendance when the team was actually IN Phoenix was pretty decent.
but Glendale is an unmitigated disaster, and nothing will turn that around.

I disagree. Betting scandals have already hit the league and I am not at all crazy about the idea of hockey becoming akin to a Penn and Teller show.

Do well at the craps table and get comp'ed two tickets. I don't see how that improves the state of the sport at all. The economy in Las Vegas is total shit, so no "locals" (if there even are any) will be going to games. Leaving sideshow as the only way to fill the arena.

Fuck Vegas.

I would love to see a team here, but you are correct the locals wouldn't provide enough support. Now if the casinos got involved with little get-away-trips that would fill some seats, but still not enough. FYI - Clark County population is around 2 million. Most have moved here from somewhere else so certain teams will draw very nice(Chi, Buf, Det, Kings, Ducks) and others not at all.

Saying all of that moving a team here would probably lead to attendance issues just like Phoenix if not worse.
