It isn't. You may be trying to access it through an old link? All the board links changed a few weeks back and I had to update my bookmark...

They did?

Preller scares me. He gutted the franchise for crap. He better redeem himself in every trade he makes over the next 24 hours. This franchise is a mess.

He's a complete sham. He thinks he's Theo. He isn't. All he is is a bad hairdo.

The only positive for this season is it looks like they might have had an okay draft. I'm still angry about the Kemp deal. Preller had a chance to nix it after Kemp failed his physical & he didn't do it. Wisler has been great for the Braves.

When the Pads were willing to dump Grandal and take on Kemp, I knew they were done. They sacrificed defense for a hoped offensive burst that has failed to materialize. I don't even think Preller can come close to rebuilding what he lost in the Pad's farm system with trades.

I certainly don't expect him to. Anyone could have made the trades Preller made before the season. I was surprised by the praise Preller got. I know he had to do something to improve the offense, but he went to far.

The moves didn't work out for the Padres, but most of the players have performed below what they've done throughout their careers. Would be nice to have Grandal over Kemp, Joe Ross and Turner over Myers' DL spot, and Hahn over Norris, but I'm happy there was an effort to improve and contend instead of waiting and hoping for prospects to turn the team around. Hopefully AJP makes smarter moves this trade deadline and offseason to make the Padres actual contenders in the near future.

I was shaking my head at all the moves (well, jumping for joy as a Dodgers fan), but for the Padres I could see it as exciting but a disaster in the making.

Shields had (has) red flags sticking out of every orifice. Good catchers are so hard to find and the Padres gave up TWO excellent ones. Then three volatile OFs, none that can play CF. Gave up an arm and a leg to get Kimbrel - who wasn't really needed - Padres bullpen didn't need that kinda help.

It was like watch a fan make the trades, not a well-informed Front Office with long-term vision or perspective. Like I said, exciting, fun, interesting, but not well thought out. Seemed all too rash and desperate.

Part, or should I say most, of the problem with the Pads is their lack of a consistent and well developed farm system. Prior ownership didn't invest the time, money or personnel to create the kind of farm system that pays dividends. Now Preller comes in and basically gives away the store hoping for a quick fix. Sad for Pads fans.

Shame is that they had a pretty sweet farm system that was about to be able to be cashed in on. Then they sold it off for the wrong pieces.

It was a boom or bust type of offseason. They had a hole at SS and CF, the lineup was too right handed heavy that was bound to strike out a LOT, and the defense was a question mark. I was hopeful it'd go well and it just didn't happen.
If the trades didn't happen the offense would still probably be bad right now even if Grandal made the AS jump and Maybin wasn't horrible, but a rotation of Hahn/Cashner/Ross/Ross/Wisler and Trea Turner filling our biggest need sounds really good right now. I don't always expect Padre prospects to work out because....well it seems like they don't. But you look at a team like the Cubs or Astros who added more and more to their farm while making good draft picks and now are postseason threats for 2015 and many years to come, it shows that sometimes patience does pay off. No matter how well SD might be playing now this year is over postseason wise, so it's up to Preller to move who he can to rebuild the farm. I'd like to have him not go complete fire sale and try to be competitive again next year especially with the ASG in SD, but with what the Giants and Dodgers have set up the Padres need a lot of talent and youth if they want to be consistent contenders.

He didn't.

Why am I seeing so much love for what the Dodgers did? They didn't add anything of significance when compared to the players they were in play for and didn't get. They took on money to get assets that aren't going to help them much. Seems like a clear loser to me.

I think Latos will have a strong 2nd half. I would love for the Sox to sign him in the winter, personally. But yeah, Dodgers definitely could have done more than they did. They certainly have a deep enough farm to pull off several big trades. Same with the Cubs to a lesser extent.

Don't sleep on the Champs getting Mike Leake. That guy put up very respectable numbers over the last 3 years playing half his games in the bandbox launching pad that is Great American Ballpark. He's 27, an innings eater, and a solid middle of the rotation guy....exactly what the Giants needed! Wouldn't surprise me if they like what they see out of him that they re-sign him before he hits the market. Everyone is talking about what the Dodgers did, what SD didn't, what COL dumped, but ultimately, getting Leake was a coup for the Giants, especially considering what they gave up to get him, which really wasn't much. Mella is still a couple years away, at best, and we have a plethora of young starters working their way up the system. Duvall was the perennial AAAA player with no defensive skill. Kudos to Giants management on how they handled this trade deadline.

The Giants don't have the best rotation. Not by a longshot. But with Bum, Heston, Leake and Peavy/Cain, we should at least be in most games. Add to that the best infield D in the bigs, the (arguably) best offence in the NL, the solid experienced bully and the undisputed best manager in the game...

I like our chances. Not saying the Giants are the favorites, but I like the position they are in.

Well, the Dodgers are hurting in the bullpen and Kershaw's hip is acting up again, so that might level the playing field a bit.

Gotta keep those Cubbies down next weekend. Trying not to look too far ahead, but it's heating up!

I am not a Bob Futzgerald fan, but he is right when he says that the season may hinge on the remaining games against the Cubs.

Those games will be HUGE!
