Reyes sucks again as a closer. I can't remember when STL had a shut down closer. Sutter?

Your avi looks much better with Lou Brock on it than it does with Rockin Robin Yount.

Concerning Alex Reyes read what I said on Post 2,894 which is only a few posts back.

Rosenthal was a pretty good shut down closer for us just a few years ago.

That's one game in the win column vs Cincy. Good job by Lester. I like the new closer....so far.

When is the last time you remember the Cardinals closing a game without drama in the 9th inning? Well it happened tonight as Gallegos retired the Reds one, two, three in the 9th. A good win for the redbirds as we continue to chase that 2nd wildcard.

@BrockForBroglio - care to seek revenge with another avi bet for this weekend series?

Sorry, just saw this. Traveled to STL yesterday to assist my kid in his first major car purchase. Since they already played a game, and I loved the outcome, I'm gonna pass this series.

A great night for the Cardinals with the Brewers, Reds, Phillies, and Padres all losing.

No worries brother. There will be other opportunities.

I was going to tease you about missing out on losing a bet, but I see the Crew came back with a full bagger in the bottom of the 9th to win... I guess when you're doing well things just kind of go your way...damn

115 pitches thru 8 and Burnes had a no hitter going, they send out Hader in the 9th? Not sure why they didn't try to get him the no no, or if he told them he was done. Whatever...a win is a win

That's weird unless Burnes had some kind of physical problem.

I have seen it all, now. Sosa snags a grounded up the middle, spins, throws and hits the 1st base umpire right in the face.

Sosa better be on the bench tomorrow, cause he won't get any close pitches called balls, ha.

That was freaky.

I'll admit that I have come close to giving up on this Cardinals team for this season several times but I didn't. We have fought back and we now have that second wildcard in our back pocket all to ourselves. The question is will we still have it after 162 games?

The Cards are white hot lately. This next series will be a dog fight.

HUGE three game series with San Diego this weekend. On paper our toughest matchup looks to be Saturday against Darvich. Velasquez (Friday) and Arrieta's ERA and WHIP are not very good, especially Arrietta. That said, STL pitchers need to hold their potent offense to a number that they can keep up with.

Need 2 out of 3 at a minimum. At least the Reds have to battle the Dodgers this weekend.

As much as we have fussed and cursed at our Cardinals all season long that second wildcard is there for the taking. We control our own destiny with a 1 game lead over the Padres who will be in St. Louis for our biggest series of the season starting tonight. I will be very happy if we win 2 out of 3 in this series. I'm just hoping our day off on Thursday didn't kill our momentum because we have been the hottest team in baseball lately.

On August 5th Fan Graphs gave the Cardinals a 1.5% chance of getting the 2nd wildcard and stated that the Cardinals would finish 8 games out of that 2nd wildcard.

We haven't won anything yet but we sure do have an opportunity to play at least a 163rd game this season.

That Padres lineup hasn't looked very good over the last month and a half...

August: .230/.309/.372, 106 runs in 26 games
Sept: .234/.301/.364, 50 runs in 13 games

Arrieta's awful.
