I’ll get one just because I want to play the new Mario games, Zelda games and the new Metroid.

My wife sucks at most games (FPS and the like) but we have lots of fun playing Mario and other Nintendo titles and when our daughter is older, Nintendo is the perfect bridge into other platforms of video games if they catch on for her.

As far as the Switch 2 itself, there’s not much about it out yet, but I wouldn’t say I’m excited for it, I’m just a sucker for Nintendo titles.

I hope they may drop the innovative route they’ve been going down since the Wii someday.

I want a Nintendo console like N64 and GameCube but I’m sure that’s my video game roots talking.

They’re gonna keep doing what they’re doing because their product will sell in Japan and the US regardless, so I will continue to ride the wave, so to speak.

I am right there with you, and it’s why I have a switch. I want the Zelda, and Mario games. And my kids and I can play Mario cart. But we all refuse to play that game with my wife, she smokes all of us as it is the only thing she plays haha

I’m definitely the Kart master in my house.

No mercy.

My daughter will know the pain and turmoil caused by my accurate green shell and banana tosses.

Fine, okay, maybe I’ll go easy at first.

Definitely want to play single player games with her initially and try to make that a focal point in her gaming.

Toxic game lobbies were bad enough when I was growing up and now with how popular streamers are and the fact they seemingly perpetuate the trend of toxicity (you’re trash, kys, etc.) I want her to enjoy gaming not strive to be the best.

My wife and i play Dr Mario, mario kart, and the sports games. I like the other Mario games too. Our kid loves watching Mario kart, but he’s too young to play. We just give him a broken controller and he’s happy to play with it and look at the screen. I will probably end up getting Switch 2.

The N64 and Gamecube are very different consoles imo. N64 was Nintendo stubbornly sticking with cartridges to avoid people stealing their games but in doing so most of the good Japanese developers left for Sony. The only reason the system didn't bomb is that they made a few of the most influential games of all time. I dont think a lot of those directors are still involved with games much. The Gamecube was Nintendo going all-in on the most powerful hardware they could get and getting some of those third party people back and imo its a much better system.

Japan really struggled with the transition to HD and games just costing more to make. Capcom was struggling to stay in business IIRC and thats Capcom. The Wii coincides with that struggle and a lot of the games are just...ok. Thats doubly bad because the Wii really isnt any more powerful than a Gamecube.

Now Japan is making most of the good games outside of indies and Nintendo runs Japan. There isnt much reason to think a Switch 2 would fail.

Oh no, it won’t fail for sure.

I admit most of my desire for a “classic” console stems from almost exclusively nostalgia. It’s not like I can’t play the Switch with a Pro Controller, because I do and the option for games on the go is cool as well.

The Wii’s a lot of the time forced motion controls I did not like and initially I didn’t get into Skyward Sword for that reason, I bought the HD remaster (maybe remake-ish?) on Switch when it was on sale awhile back but haven’t played it yet, as far as I know a lot of it was changed to less motion control or at least alternatives to it.

Yeah, a lot of the motion control Wii games are an evolutionary dead end in video games.

The best thing about that era is that the DS had New Super Mario Bros in 06 and that sold like crack so they started making 2D games on the Wii after not really having many 2D games on the Gamecube or N64.

I've been playing Nintendo games from the start so I'll be buying a Switch 2 one day depending on the price.

I'm hoping that it improves original Switch games since it's backwards compatible because I've got a nice backlog I would like to dig into but kinda waiting to see if Nintendo goes the route of Sony and Microsoft with their previous generation games running better on their current gen consoles.
