Everything is out of control. Fans aren't going to be back in the stands this season. It's going to cost a fortune and TV ratings for sports have been awful even for sports Americans like. The check engine soon light just came on for the 2021 season.
but what about the new jerseys!!!!Everything is out of control. Fans aren't going to be back in the stands this season. It's going to cost a fortune and TV ratings for sports have been awful even for sports Americans like.
The bubble was one thing. I didn't think it was worth it (and I'm not sure financially it was for the NHL) but it's done. I can't really see any good reason to be trying to play a season right now. Cancelling and hoping 2021-22 isn't impacted at all and we get a full season is probably the best move here.
Wasn't the NHL season right after they introduced the NHL Guardians cancelled? That is probably why they are not huge still.but what about the new jerseys!!!!
can't waste all of that marketing momentum
fans are freakin' pumped
The owners saw this coming when they redid the CBA four or five months ago. This was essentially a lockout provision if things don’t improve.Everything is out of control. It was fucking insane for either side to agree to sign a new CBA in the middle of a long-term global disaster. They're both stupid for agreeing to it when they did.
I'd argue that this is the only time they actually do have leverage - the owners have money. They agreed to pay them the money. They agreed to the revised escrow terms. That was the concession. They can either honour the agreement or discard it in which case the players take them to court, which will most likely rule in their favour. No? Simplified version of it by an idiot but I think that's the gist of what's happening. The problem is the players really have no leverage and the owners know this, they can wait until the players finally relent and agree to these revised terms.

It's not like the owners can negotiate solely on financial reasoning that the season is feasible and depends on financial considerations and then go back and cancel the season and blame the pandemic. Sucking and blowing at the same time etc.
So the Feds just banned the Raptors from hosting games in Toronto so they're playing in TB all year.
If the NHL's plan is actually to just have the Canadian teams play each other 60 times I'm not watching.
You kind of perfectly highlighted exactly why I wouldn't - I got bored watching those games when they played 6 times a year, especially when they clustered 4 of those games within like 3 weeks. It gets dull fast. You say that now, but you'll be watching lol
/especially when the Buds play the Habs or Sens.
