I hope they and their families recover quickly.

Does the logical step clearly seem to be to cancel this shortened sure to be fuck fest of the season and hope to play a normal season next year?

Do the players get paid anything if the season is cancelled entirely due to a pandemic or disaster? If so, do the owners have insurance to cover the salaries in case of a cancellation?
My guess is force majeure and the owners would be off the hook mostly.

They could be nice and pay something like 5-10% but they wouldn’t have to really.

The thing that was becoming clear is a lot of players probably need some portion of their salaries to pay for their houses/cars/wives/mistresses and this would make some of those guys struggle financially but, well, so is a lot of the world right now.

That makes sense, I understand they couldnt just cancel the season on a whim, but this seems like a legit time.

I said in an earlier post the only reason to play at this point is if it makes sense financially and I honestly can't see the NHL making money off of a season in these circumstances.

Also I have not seen if their current plans of a shortened season would last longer than a season normally would. If so would they shorten or delay next season? Or would the league/players be OK with a shortened offseason...

Season would end prior to the start of the summer Olympics in the last week of July ... as NBC wants

Beat me to it.

Considering the number of cases here in town in general, it's not surprising.

Our program just paused and at the very least will not be participating in the Thanksgiving tourneys, quite possibly bailing on the season. A couple teams have already backed out. But of course, there are teams saying that they are going to stay in to be the last one standing and therefore "Champions". Dicks.

A couple of weeks ago, a lot of people in the know were saying there's a 99% chance that we'll have a season. I'm thinking it's at best 50-50 now.

"Don't blame us for the league shutting down - we presented an alternative."
