Just think with ESPN if this was Lebron and he had a hang nail we would know which finger, the minute of the day he got it, when it was removed and who took care of it for him.

Out of curiosity, I pulled up the CBA to see what (if anything) it says on players playing in the all star game.

There is a passage included in the Standard Player Contract:

The Player agrees to give his services and to play hockey in all NHL Games, All Star Games, International Hockey Games and Exhibition Games to the best of his ability under the direction and control of the Club in accordance with the provisions hereof.

So the CBA does clearly indicate that the player must play in the ASG if able. Obviously defining "to the best of his ability" is difficult.

My guess is that the league and PA came to some type of agreement during one of their meetings on how to handle no-shows.
