Girgemsons may be a decent human being and he is a half decent player but him going to the All Star Game is why fan voting has to stop.

Fans have seen him play more than they've seen John Tavares this season on NBCSN. In fact the Sabres will be on National TV again this weekend. Lucky us.:L

Halak replacing Howard over MAF bugs the crap out of me. Not to disparage Halak, who is having a good year...but MAFs numbers are better in everything but 1 win. Suppose I should be glad he's getting a bit of a break, seeing as he's carrying the load as a starter.

I revoke my bugged-ness. Didn't realize Rinne was hurt too.

Both goalies deserve to go. Hopefully that's what happens. My only concern is the last time an Islanders goalie went to the All Star Game it basically ended his career. I would prefer it if Okposo was given a spot instead of Halak for that reason only.

Shit, forgot about that. Man, he was mic'd up and everything too. And both are going now.

There are zero Red Wings in the all star game, yet they are only a few shootout losses from being the top team in the Atlantic. The one player who was originally on the team is the one primarily responsible for the Wings' league-worst 1-7 shootout record. This is dumb.

Got some questions about what the fan fair is all about. The NHL site says displays and games, so I am assuming that's kind of like a traveling HHoF, with the shootout games and stuff.

But it also says current and former NHL'ers. So, like how does that work? Do you have to pay extra (like most fan fests) to talk to them and get autographs? Wondering if it's going to be worth it for me to drag a bag of jerseys and pucks down there with me to get signed. Also wondering if I need to get a pass for more than one day.

Just found out last night that my son did not get picked to hang out on the red carpet, but another kid on my team did. So if you tune in and see a kid in a Sharks home colored jersey (they were told to wear their team jersey) with CAHA on the front, his name is Connor (and he is a very solid defender). And if you see a kid with Blonde hair in a Flyers road colored jersey that also says CAHA, he's one of my goalie students, possibly the best one. His name is Cole. Wave at them.

We get to have a stick and puck on the outdoor rink tomorrow morning, and a buddy of mine from the rink got an early shot at it last night because he works part time for the company that runs our rinks. Really looking forward to that.

I went to the one in Dallas years ago, won a VIP trip through Sirius, so my info is dated. At the Fan Fest if there was a autograph area it was sponsored by someone (like upper deck ) and was no extra for fans. They also had a VIP room in a nearby hotel. There the players old and new were just roaming around. Free food and booze, State Fair style games, bands and other stuff. Spoke with a bunch of former players there but didn't ask for autographs. Got stuck in a sponsor section for the game. Many around me had never seen a game before. If you treat it like a party then it is a fun event

Pics from this morning at the outdoor rink downtown. Me and the biscuits at the arch / winter park.

The boy leading the pack, the little biscuit hitting the Blue Line (in her cat ears) and Mrs 43 catching up.

She said "I can't skate fast". He said "I'll help you". He went by, whacked her in the head and skated away from her backwards. She did speed up.

He doesn't like his picture taken. But he perked up a little when I told him Bobrovsky lives in that big building behind him.

Skating accomplished, me and the boy on our way to Tim's at the Arena. I got many comments on my jersey.

Oh, by the way he decided since he was on the Sharks this year, he'd wear the Sharks' goalie's number.

so it appears that the red wings will be the only team without a player at the all star weekend. I can't remember the last time a team was not represented at the all star weekend

You guys should have been a bit more like Chicago and/or Latvia. Stuff the ballot box.

Gonna be weird that there's no Wings. I can think of three besides Howard that should have gone (Zetterberg, Datsyuk and Kronwall). How none of those guys made it in, I have no idea.

To me, the All-Star voting is a joke; and, in some ways a popularity contest rather than letting some of the better players in the league be represented. I'll speak only for the Wings here, but I could point to specific cases for other players around the league also. How does one of the best two-way players in the world not be selected for this event? Not selecting Datsyuk is a travesty. Also, why are newer players like Tatar or Nyquist (21 and 19 goals, respectively) not getting the opportunity to go? What more do guys like that have to do to be rightfully recognized to go to this event? This voting system is flawed when those guys are left off the list. Granted, you can't take all of the worthy players, but there are always a few selections that might be excluded for at least one of them to be added. A much better system would be to include both the fan vote as well as the players vote, where both of those results are weighted equally. You award the player receiving the most votes with 50 points in each case. All others will be given points based on their percentage with respect to the number of votes of the #1 selection multiplied by 50. The sum of the points calculated from both the fan vote and the players vote will determine who goes and who are left out. The players should be given the privilege to vote also, as they did when the All-Star game meant something more than the dog and pony show it seems to be nowadays.
