Sounds like how Florida was a few years ago, end up taking big contracts back like Campbell from the hawks to get to the cap floor. They should be in some position to offer Patrick Kane the world to go back home if they choose.

If Chicago re-signs him it won't happen

I see no reason Kane would even think about that.

Chicago is going to have some trouble maneuvering new deals for Kane and Toews under the cap, but to let either of them walk would be a horrible idea, given the core they've put together there.

I think they let Seabrook go long before they consider letting Kane or Toews go. They're also likely to pick up a nice savings when Oduya is up after next year. I'd think he walks and they bring a younger (read: cheaper) guy up in his place.

Add in a bump in the cap (both this year's and next) and they can afford to lock both up for a long time I think.

I'm hoping the Devils buy out Volchenkov....Lou said he has made no decisions regarding buyouts yet

I like A-Train but with our depth at D and needing to clear a roster spot for young guys he seems like a likely candidate.

I don't think they can buyout Clowe since he signed last year otherwise he'd be the no brainer as far as I'm concerned.

Agreed it will probably be A-Train

I would take him in a second.

He's not the player he was a few years ago 43. The way he plays (hits/blocked shots) has really taken a toll. Still good but no where near worth his cap hit, especially with the years he has left.

I'm sure someone will pick him up "cheap" if Lou cuts him loose.

Agreed with this, at a cheaper price he's not bad, he's just not the guy he used to be

I wonder if Detroit would be interested in him, I know they have Stephen Weiss but Brad Richards could be a possibility, they have some cap space too

cant think he would get any more than a 2 year deal.

Maybe, just maybe, he returns to Tampa? I know Tampa was interested in Spezza but Brad Richards would be a nice veteran guy to have on that team, he'd be a good leader

you get him in there for 2 years and a $3M cap hit and get spezza in that teams dynamics changes dramatically. he still has game

I don't think they'll get them both, they have the cap space to do it but there's a lot of slotting that will be needed in order to do that - it would be nice though

As of now, Lou has not committed to using his remaining compliance buyout. Can't say I'd be very happy if he chooses not to use it. I understand not saying anything until you need to, he's probably looking to make a trade before he flat out gives up on a player but there are certainly disposable players making more than they should for the Devils.
