First of all the doctor didn't tell me that he saved my moms life, he told me that her falling and cracking a rib and the xrays that followed saved her life because thats how they found the cancer. Furthermore, the doctor who told me this was my step fathers partner, and fellow oncologist who I have known all my life.

Secondly your figures are basically total fucking bullshit.

Just looking at breast cancer.... The five year survival rate is as follows..

Stage
0 100%

I 100%

II 93%

III 72%

IV 22%

I will even link an actual source... The american cancer society... Survival rates for breast cancer

But keep talking about how early detection of cancer is unimportant and make yourself look a baffoon if you want to. What kind of dick goes around trying to convince people not to get regular checkups for any kind of common cancer such as breast, colon, or prostate? You are the first one I have heard say such a fucking stupid thing.

or we can keep talking about how you don't understand a simple statistical mill. Let's try one more time. 20 years ago a woman would go in with some symptoms at age 60 or 65 with symptoms, be diagnosed, treated, and some survived some didn't. 5 years is their "cure" standard.

fast forward today. the number of those being diagnosed has increased steadily, mostly because we're looking a lot more so we're finding more. We find it in a woman that is 45 and we treat her, she survives 5 years, she's "cured", another stat used to make it look like we're actually doing things. never mind she still dies well before the average american's life expectency, that's not what is important in cancer stats. 20 years ago, she may have never gone in and never had a problem, or she may have been the one with symptoms and dies at 60 or 65 before the "5 year survival cure standard"

The numbers of diagnosed go up. We're catching a lot because we look a lot. The numbers of women dying has not changed hardly at all. Yes you can find stats and percentages that are cooked every which way to show we're making such strides, but you're easily fooled.

what happens when the number of diagnosed steadily increases even though the number of those dying doesn't? can you rub those 2 cells together and figure out what that alone will do to statistics?

Keep thinking you're doing something when you buy pink. They could donate 10 million and the number actually going to anything other than making more money on cancer is tiny. Lots of people get riched very few get saved.

And don't get started on prostate cancer. Our detection is a joke, a complete and utter joke. Besides that it is one of the most benign cancers on earth. If you're a man and you live long enough, you'll have it. Plain and simple. Been that way forever. and you'll most likely die from something else. There is good evidence that treatment does more harm than just leaving it.

That is why we don't have blue months in the NFL. People love boobies, breast cancer is an easy sell because who doesn't care about women and breasts? Though there are cancer societies just chomping to get prostate cancer the same exposure as breast (because it will roll in the billions) there are many researchers and doctors willing to say it's a bunch of garbage. It's a much tougher sell right now, but I have no doubt once they can cook the numbers a bit and find the right angle it will be exploited just like breast cancer.

and also past age 70, most lung tumors are left alone. That is the STANDARD of care because the patients are more likely to die from treatment or die from something else than any tumor they find on a chest xray at age 70. tell me my stats are bullshit. You might look halfway intelligent to a few on here because they have the same education as you on cancer. The one propagated by cancer societies that stand to make billions off the promotion of cancer. Your oncologist friend too :) when you've spend more than a day in a lab or working on public health let me know. Maybe then you'll have a little bit of background to actually hvae an intelligent discussion on the topic.

I'm scaring myself here but I agree with breaker. I lost my wife, 3 sisters, my father, my uncle, father in law and who knows how many more to Cancer. Breast cancer is one form we have made great progress in.

Virtually all charities are moneymaking businesses. Should they not get paid because they are working for a good cause?

Sorry to hear that

another one too fucking stupid to put 2 and 2 together

if you go find it when she's 45 and treat her though she never had any problems, put her thru surgeries, tests, chemo, radiation, i'm sure you've seen someone with a cancer diagnosis, it's not pretty. and she survives 5 years, she's cured right? what if she still dies when she 55 or 60?

How is she any different than the woman that goes in at 55 with symptoms, get's treated and dies by age 60?

speaking of clueless. Another poster educated by the American cancer society.

Since so many are having problems with accepting this from me, how about we try something else.

Does the New England Journal of Medicine count?

MMS: Error

CONCLUSIONS
Despite substantial increases in the number of cases of early-stage breast cancer detected, screening mammography has only marginally reduced the rate at which women present with advanced cancer. Although it is not certain which women have been affected, the imbalance suggests that there is substantial overdiagnosis, accounting for nearly a third of all newly diagnosed breast cancers, and that screening is having, at best, only a small effect on the rate of death from breast cancer.

or a professor of Medicine at Dartmouth? -H. Gilbert Welch, MD,
Screening for cancer means that tens of thousands of patients who never would have become sick are diagnosed with this disease.

Screening tests are very good at catching tumors that would never bother us, he notes, but they’re actually pretty bad at catching the fastest-growing and most deadly cancers in time to cure them.

or how about the associate Director at NIH, Barnett S. Kramer, MD

Some tumors spread extremely early, They begin metastasizing when they consist of only a few million cells, which sounds like a lot but is smaller than the period at the end of this sentence — too small to detect with most screening tests. By the time this kind of cancer is big enough to be seen on a mammogram or other test, it’s already sent seeds to other parts of the body.

There's more, but it's not wise to call one clueless when you're not all that up on things yourself.

what was wrong with the pink gloves, wrist bands, arm sleeves, cleats? I mean these colors match the bears orange pretty good, but wow, they are really pushing to something considered pink.
