So this would essentially eliminate the 2-point conversion?

Very bad Idea. How would you go for 2 or do a fake extra point. I don't like the Idea. Extra point should be easy. U just got a TD. Maybe move it to the 12 yard line but not the 25.

Very bad Idea by the NFL.

I would assume (didn't read the article) that on 2-point conversions the ball will be spotted on the 2.

If that is the case then there would be no fakes. Who would go for a fake at the 25 yard line.

Umm how many fake extra points were there this year? I doubt there were more than 5 in the entire NFL

The funniest one was where Chip Kelly tried to do it to Kansas City in his second game. Andy Reid was ready for the college approach (not all fakes are college-like, but that was). A Philadelphia fan told me that he stopped trying it after that. I can't confirm because I don't watch the Eagles and he is a casual fan (so maybe he missed subsequent fake lineups?).

I like the idea. but if they move the 2 point conversation back to the 25 no 1 will go for it or convert

I've heard the two point conversion would stay at the current location. This distance would lead to about 15-20 percent of the PATs failing if you use FG stats of a comparable distance. I like it better than some of the other things I've heard.

What happens you drop kick a PAT?

Automatic forfeit. Seriously, I think it would be a missed PAT? A drop kick would likely be a touchback even if it were an option - 5 yards is worth 1 point?

One of the other options that's been discussed is to simply eliminate the PAT. You can go for two if you want, or you an just take 7 points for your TD and have the PAT gifted to you. There were 4 missed PATs this year. That was on 1252 attempts. That's a success rate of 99.7%.

The extra point is virtually guaranteed at this point. The question becomes, why make lineman on both sides of the ball take approximately 5 more hits per game that essentially mean nothing. Wasn't Gronk hurt on a PAT? How would Niner fans feel if Staley got rolled up on during a PAT, or Justin Smith got injured, for something that is likely the most meaningless play in all of sports.

It's the rough equivalent of the NBA having the free throw line be 18 inches from the hoop and allowing dunking. It makes the entire process pointless. Now imagine the other 8 guys on the floor all having to wrestle throughout the free throw.

The NFL's solution to this "problem" is to make the process more meaningful (difficult) or remove it entirely (gifting the single point).

Yep. And from the 25 that might happen even more often. Think of that excitement happening more than 0.3% of the time.

The fact that you had to go back to the Carney one, from 2003, speaks to how automatic the PAT is. The excitement that comes with the incredibly rare miss (and that excitement is pretty rare even on missed PATs) is why the NFL is exploring ways of keeping the kick in the game but making it more challenging rather than just awarding 7 points for the TD.

Great, now were going to see increases in pay for decent Kickers because they automatically become more valuable...

Like I said if they do move it maybe move it to like the 10 or 12 yard line. It still makes it a 27-30 yard try and teams can still go for 2 from that distance. Takes away the running option on the play but they can still getting by passing.

Overall just keep it where it is.
