I think we need to stop chasing players and start developing them.
In the Belichick days, Chasing defensive players was often very successful.
Chasing Offensive talent was usually average, at best and got worse when we needed it the most in later years.

I think a big part of that was so many teams...HC's and GM's...felt burned by Bill after doing a trade and that player became a key contributor.

Interesting take on the discussions about QB salary caps.

KC suggested making the QB's salary away from the cap. Of course that would really help them because Mahomes' salary eats up about 22% of their cap. SF has spent a ton of money outside of the QB and having the last guy taken in the draft allows them to spend freely to surround him with talent.

Miami and Houston are concerned about what their QBs will demand and are afraid that they will not play for the franchise numbers regardless of how much it pays. With Trevor Lawrence getting an average of $55M a year for five years, the Dolphins are afraid Tua will be looking for $60M which will be 23.5% of their cap. If Tua gets $60M, Houston knows that CJ Stroud will be looking for $65M.

What happens when a QB is getting $65M and the #1 WR on a team wants $45M????????? That'll be somewhere around 40% of the cap.

Will the NFL have to go the same route as the NBA? Max, Super Max, Even value trades????

NFL is teetering on the edge. They better think of something, quick!
What about not signing veterans after 5 year rookie contract?

Looks like the owners want more of the share of the profits. First they should look at is the Commissioner's $55M annual salary. Then start worrying about paying the guys who produce the profit.

Smartest thing they could do is reset the cap to a permanent $400M. Then set salary scales for every position that would take up the $400M if they had to pay it all out. Then set reasonable league office salaries and cap those. It's the product on the field tht sells tickets, advertising and jerseys, not the front office or the NFLPA.

Eventually tickets, advertising and goodies sales will have maxed out. The revenue will start to dry up and then some teams will begin to falter. Already seeing it just a bit in Jacksonville. That owner wants to move his team to London. Patriots are playing in an outdated stadium in Foxboro and there isn't a large enough tract of land in that area to build another one. That and a $3B price tag might be out of the question. At least in Massachusetts.

The players want more too.
It's all subject to negotiation. The art of the deal.
GM's have to negotiate harder. Owners need to say no!
I was a contractor much of my life. I learned to say no!

Before Aaron Rogers went to play in this weekend's Celebrity Golf Tournament, he was playing some catch football with a bunch of NFL buddies.

After throwing a couple of passes to Davante Adams, Rogers said, "I can't wait to play with you.......pause.....again."

Is Rogers planning a move???? Are the Jets planning a move???

NY Post has been beating this to death and there's been no reaction.

Question has been asked.......Are the Jets working a deal for Adams? Are the Raiders working a deal for Rogers??

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones moves the goal posts.

Dak Prescott, Cedee Lamb and Micah Parsons are in the final year of their contracts and all want new ones...........................now.

Jones had a press conference yesterday and basically said he's all in, all in in 2024. If the Cowboys don't make it to the NFC Championship or the Super Bowl, he'll blow up the team and rebuild it into something better. He said he's been paying people to win a championship and he hasn't gotten value back.

Dak came out and said that players put their careers on the line every week and should be paid for taking those risks.

Jones had already answered that statement and said that every player has a contract that he was thrilled to sign at the time he signed it. Every player risks injury but that's why they get paid the money that they get. If they're not smart enough to invest it or at least save most of it, that's on them. He pretty much said that he's not giving anyone a new contract. If they don't play, then they'll have to come back next year and if they don't they don't get paid and they'll never be a free agent.

Owners across the league are sitting up and taking notice because Jones is drawing a deep line in the sand and there's nothing anyone can do about it. One sports commentator was in ESPN and asked, "What happens if all three have minor injuries and try to sit out all season so they can become free agents next year?" One other guy said, "If someone fakes an injury or makes an injury so bad that he can't play, other owners won't want to sign them, no matter how good they are, because they know that he'll be a problem when his next contract reaches the final year."

Want to bet that this will be a major discussion when the competition committee or the owners meet in December???

Well after 30 some odd years of him being an owner, I support Jerry.

I don't disagree with Dak's sentiment however there's a factor he's not accounting for... All players take the same risk and that risk has equal value for all. Anything Dak makes above a median salary is added value and JJ's comments certainly apply to that.

I agree.

I find it laughable that every player feels that they don't want to "Risk Their Career" in the final year of a contract. What about that same risk in year 1 of a contract?

I think JJ had a very interesting take on these guys and not setting aside a much larger portion of their paychecks. It made me wonder how many teams have a money manager that's available to help players budget themselves and control how they deal with an immediate wad of money. And how many of them take advantage of it. Gronk probably has the best story of anyone. He never spent a single dollar of any paycheck and lived off money he earned outside football. Of course, making a couple million a year doing Dunkin Donuts commercials can ease the financial stress.

Did Brady not get sued for recommending digital currency?
I never give money advice outside of freinds and family.
I am notoriously conservative when it comes to money.
I had a banker friend once share with me, "trust nobody when it comes to large sums of money!"

A torn ACL can have a career impact on a future HOF UDFA where it could be just a setback for Dak.
