I dont think that, at the time, what his parents said to him in this clip - that cornrows make you look like a “young thug,” and that “they’re not professional,” is all that racist though….

Sounds to me like a mother looking out for her child.

Back in the day being racist meant you hated people of other races or one or 2 in particular . I don’t see how a so called racist white couple would adopt a child of color , LOVE the child , but hate him because of his color . I think he is a brain washed blm member

I think he’s probably somewhere in the middle of whatever extreme most people label him as: cultural warrior hero or brainwashed BLM member.

My parents lost their mind when I was in high school and college...lol

I got a similar lecture in different terms. Again, not even referencing the article or addressing kapernicks situation or passing any judgment. I simply had flashbacks to my own life and experience.

I grew out my hair, dyed it, and grew a goatee in college.

I cut my hair and shaved prior to going home as i did not want my dad to execute me...lol

Same here:

Lots of hair experimentation (facial, length, style, cut, color), ear piercings, etc. Anything that wasn’t permanent.

Until I was headed home, that is….
