Most Broncos fans are hoping and praying that they trade down to get more draft capital. Broncos have no 2nd round pick this year and have been in early round droughts for multiple years due to the Russell Wilson and Sean Payton draft pick trades. The team has many holes. They need as many early picks as they can stockpile.

Yeah, I think they trade back. The #12 pick is likely to be a hot pick, especially if a player like Bowers or another highly rated guy is still on the board. Idk if they take Bo Nix or not later in the draft, but it makes sense they trade back with all the needs they have and the salary cap hell they will have the next few years due to Russell. They need cheap rookies to fill holes.

The only problem with that is their biggest need is QB IMO. It's not typically a position where a team will just be happy with whomever falls to them, they will want a specific guy. If their guy is there at #12 (unless they want someone well out of the 1st round range like Rattler), can they afford to trade down and risk losing that QB target? Trying to game the system to get your QB at better pick value could really backfire.

Who makes a bigger impact though, a top 12 pick or a pick at the end of the 1st and a 2nd or 3rd round pick?

Plus, there's this (smoke screen or not):

I could see that. I take it riding with Stidham is popular for the same reason?

I see zero chance of Verse falling to 26. Maybe swapping him with Latu, that makes more sense, altho Latu should go earlier than 26 as well. I also bolded Odunze at 11 because I can't rule out the Bears taking him if he's there at 9.

I think I might just be really high on Sweat. NT but with way more athleticism than you see from that size. A true outlier best I can tell. Not quite as ridiculous as Jordan Davis but I think he is a 1st rounder. I always think of the AFC North as a bit of a grinder division, too. Browns seem to give the Bengals issues, for example.

The problem is that they are likely to get the #5 QB in the draft at the #12 spot. Do you take the extra picks that trading out of that pick can give you and draft a QB later or over draft the best available QB?

I think you trade out and hope for the best. Peyton has at least 3 more seasons in Denver imo. More draft picks will help him more than drafting a guy like Nix at #12. Just my two cents.

I think Nix will still be around later in the first round, maybe even early 2nd round.

Who would they get at #12? Nix?

Maybe they are higher on Nix than I give them credit for, but I don’t think I have seen a mock draft that has Nix in the top 20 picks.

yea... this is why mocks are always dumb... because mock drafters NEVER value QBs the way real NFL teams do... If you like a QB, you take him... its really that easy....

what number was Marino in 83?

I don’t think I know who won the Super Bowl in 1983. Wasn’t there like 20 NFL teams then?

I think the problem with this exercise is that most likely 1-3 prospects are going to fall further than you think. Verse ended up being that guy. Maybe its Chop Robinson instead.

Ill make a bet with you.... has many outs... the bet is ONLY if the Broncos draft a QB in the first round

I bet that they trade up to get one!!! even if it is NIX....

12 is a tie

Trade down you win

You take your guy when you can IMO. I've seen this kind of maneuvering bite the Rams in the past, gambling on trading down then losing their target LB Bobby Wagner (to a division rival no less).

QB isn't a position where you just take the next available guy if you can avoid it. If it was, Russell Wilson would probably still be Denver's starter.

Just for full transparency, the Broncos have the #12 pick, and their next pick isn’t till #76. So to trade up, they will likely have to go into next years draft picks or trade away what few picks they currently have.

You sure you want to make that bet?
