Well some people will use All Pro's and or Pro Bowl appearances. I seen most of the people we are going to be drafting play so I have a little idea of these players skills.

But don't you think the eye test is the worst metric?? the biggest problem with the eye test is that our memories are fickle, we like to remember the flashy plays or the failure plays, but a consistently great player is overlooked...

I know we all love football, but does anyone really know anything here?? at least with baseball we can all base our knowledge on stats... there are football positions that don't even get statistics, and most stats are based on how well the rest of the team was... I hear UK always quoting coaches and other people, but I am sure I can find a quote about anyone by a reputable person to say any player is better than they actually are...

Point to this rant is that all drafts and votes are opinion votes... But football is the king of opinion votes, stats really are untrustworthy...

Take it from me, I know it all just ask...

Yeah but what else is there. We tend to romantize players from yesteryear and we are obviously trying to be fair in picking the best teams but lets remember we cant really spend hoop cash...

I actually typed 6 different players before deciding on Allen and McDaniel who IMO are the two best Guards who ever played in the NFL.

Pretty close. I'd put Matthews slightly ahead of McDaniel, but you can make an argument for sure. Unless you're Milk, and then we should just throw darts because linemen don't have stats

I had both of them on my short list coming up. They ranked 2 and 3 to me. Hannah 1

lolzzz of course...

Funny thing is I would put McDaniel 1 and Allen 2. Randall didn't fall off in his later seasons the way Larry did. Thats not to take anything away from Allen as I did say I have him as the 2nd best Guard of all time. May have been due to his size he had alot more fat on his body than McDaniel did, Randall was a 280 LG who was pretty much muscle with very little excess fat.

Just depends on your scheme, power vs a pulling type, but early on Larry Allen was the best OL period IMO. The play, it was either against the Saints or Eagles, where Allen ran a guy down from 50 yards after a pick......absurd

I agree to a point. McDaniel was not just a pulling type his power was amazing, but I will agree that in his prime in those late 90's Allen was as good a lineman as you will ever see, he was more dominate in his prime but Randall was more dominate over the course of his entire career..

I like Matthews because of his versatility.

But Allens strength is unreal.

Both great picks... I think I messed up a little in that although there are a bunch of great linemen left where the difference isn't HUGE the bucket restriction changes things a lot... I think Mathews is one of the top picks as well as Munoz obviously, not only because of their play but because of the buckets that they represent...
