I have to say, Jerry's cap management and roster building is atrocious. I thought Dallas didn't want to pay a lot of money to another receiver and that's why they let Amari Cooper walk, but now they trade for a #2 receiver who wants #1 receiver money?

You would have to think that Pickens is going to be $25 million minimum based upon the way the market has gone. Top level twos like Devonta Smith and Tee Higgins cost that much.

No, not really. They didn't want to pay Amari Cooper $20M per and that is why his deal was structured to cut him when they did from first day it was signed. They instead traded him for whatever they could get. He wasn't worth that salary in their opinion and they didn't want to restructure him because they didn't want him long term. Remember $20M for a WR before free agency in 2022 (so kind of after the 2021 free agents signed) wasn't all that different from about $30M today. AJ Brown signed for $25M a couple months later when the 2022 guys started signing. They also are in a much better cap situation today than they were then. Plus at the time they had CeeDee and Gallup who they just signed the week before and who had just torn his ACL and who they incorrectly expected him to come back as a #2 but he never fully recovered from his injury. So it wasn't even as much as not wanting to pay a #2 as it was not wanting to pay $20M to Cooper to pay big $'s to both a #2 and a #3 when CeeDee was your clear #1.

So they made a call on Cooper vs. Gallup that backfired when Gallup got hurt and never became the stud #2. Yeah, that makes sense.

It will be interesting to see how this move shakes out for sure IMO. I don't doubt the talent, but when Pittsburgh decides not to pay a receiver or running back, it's generally a good move by them.

Dallas Goedert returns to the Eagles on a restructured deal. Haven't seen the numbers yet. Good to have him back in the fold. Just hope that he is healthy this season. He seems to miss 4-5 games every season.

It sounds like he took a pay cut to remain on the roster this season that lowered his cap hit in exchange for more guaranteed money. A Josh Sweat type move from a year ago. He will be gone after this year but that’s fine.

I agree. Looking at the lay of the land though, I would have liked them to draft one of the TEs this year. Not sure what next year’s draft will be like. Would also be interested in sending a 5th or 6th to LV Raiders for Michael Mayer

No that's not what happened as I just explained and no one ever said stud and Gallup in the same sentence. Amari wasn't worth $20M or really even close to that to them. That didn't change because Gallup didn't recover. In Cle they had no one else so he got a lot of targets that he wasn't going to get in Dallas. He also was coming off a season in which he kept taking himself out of the game because he was tired in big spots. We saw last year how he is just pretty much done at this point. Buffalo barely seemed to look his way after a while. I was praying Dallas didn't bring him back when I heard it rumored this offseason. I'm not even sure he is a good #3 at this point.

Sounds like he took 4 million less.

Was legit surprised y’all didn’t take a flyer in the later rounds with all those picks

I was also surprised they didn't draft a TE, and suspect a trade is happening like the Mayer one that has been rumored. But the other possibility is, they like Grant Calcaterra more than we realize. They also have Johnny Wilson who is more of a big WR but a very good blocking one who can be a TE2 type in the run game.

Calcaterra isn't good enough as a receiver to make up for the fact that he is below terrible as a blocker, in my opinion. That guy must have compromising pictures of Jeffrey Lurie
