The Lions got Goff, Williams, LaPorta, Gibbs, Melifonwu, Pachal and Martin in that trade (lots of pick trades were involved so it wasn’t a simple “Stafford for…” trade, but close enough for this convo). I think the Lions are thrilled with the results of the trade.

The trade was for Goff and some good picks dippy. And even with trading those good picks we still killed it.

So what. Had nothing to do with the trade

Like others, I put the Lions loss on a combo of things.
--Campbell going for it on 4th down both times--but I get it. That's the horse that got them there.
--1 bad bounce--that ball that bounced off the Lions defender and into Aiyuk's hands.
--1 bad turnover--that fumble by Gibbs was the result of a mixup between him and Goff, Gibbs never really secured the ball
--bad tackling--that Lions defense gave up a lot of yards after contact

If just a couple of those things happen, the Lions could still win. This was the second game in a row against a playoff team that when the chips were down, Purdy came up huge to keep his team in the game. It was still a thin margin of victory for the Niners.


Jimmy never even sniffed a pro bowl under Shanny. Not even in his best year. OTOH, Purdy was a finalist for MVP. They are nowhere close to the same player.

Lets get serious. Jimmy not getting there was mainlyDue to injuries. Consensus was, when healthy, hea a top ten qb.

Goff has a Hell of a lot better chance to win one going forward than Stafford

Staff isn’t even a .500 QB since the SB.

That’s where the Stafford advantage ends. If he manages to stay healthy next year he’s gonna take out Favre for most Pick Sixes all time.
