They're paying Santana, Jason Bay and Bobby Bonilla a lot this year, and all for nothing. That's all off the books after this year and supposedly 2014 will be the time to spend some money. I have to admit, I wouldn't mind seeing Ellsbury.

That's what the Mets need, another big money player with a history of injuries. I would hope that they learned their lesson by now, but somehow I don't think so.

I wonder what their center field prospect look like down in their farm system? If you can't buy what you need, you had better be able to "grow" it yourself instead.

BTW: at 50 posts, I am seeing something about private messages. Still trying to figure out how to do and use though, so......?

Lol! You are bitter about the Mets, aren't ya? Anyway, I would've much preferred the rumored Stanton deal...and don't forget, we've still got Duda! :yahoo:

Howdy y'all. Another CBS reject here. Been a Dodgers fan since the early 1950's, so that tells you my username is for real. Now if I could just remember where I put my walker I'd be outta here.

I'm still dreaming that we can find a way to land Stanton, keep D'arnaud and sign a free agent outfielder like Ellsbury. Just think of this lineup:

CF: Ellsbury
3B: Wright
RF: Stanton
1B: Davis
C: D'Arnaud
LF: Duda
2B: Valdespin/Murphy
SS: Tejada

Who do they have to give up in trade that anyone would want? Is there a prospect in their system that would be worth it to the Fish?

The Mets farm system is actually very, very good after the trades of Beltran, RA Dickey, and compensation picks from when Reyes left. The Mets top 2 prospects are Zack Wheeler (a potential top end starter we got from the Giants for Beltran) and Travis D'Arnaud (The top catching prospect in baseball we got in the Dickey deal). Those 2 were the rumored asking price.

And the Magic man jogs this old dude's memory........ How I forgot about Wheeler,......:gaah:

I guess this will need to wait a bit, as Stanton is now heathly, and D'Arnaud is now not. However, if the Mets are will ing to part with those 2 pieces, they could net a current stud for sure.

If this trade had any validity, the Mets would have no choice but to be willing. A bird (stud) in the hand who's not FA eligible until 2017. Apparently the plan was to pursue McCann next year. The wisdom of that part i'm not so certain of.

McCann? As in the Braves C that is breaking down like compost? That can't be right, unless they think D'Arnaud is still 2 years away from the bigs.

No...the rumored trade was Wheeler and d'Arnaud for Stanton, with the Mets pursuing McCann as a FA next year.

Looks like the Rangers are going to do their part in helping the other recent tragedy victims.

The Texas Rangers will hold a blood drive and accept donations this weekend for victims of the fertilizer plant explosion near Waco. The Rangers said Thursday that the relief effort will take place during their home series against Seattle.

As many as 15 people were killed and more than 160 others were injured Wednesday night in the accident in the farm town of West, Texas, which is less than 90 miles south of Rangers Ballpark.
The Rangers said fans can bring essential items all weekend for the victims and that cash donations also will be accepted. The team's food truck will head to West to make food and water donations.
Among the most requested items are diapers, water bottles, gift cards for grocery stores or home supply stores, toilet paper, non-perishable food items and clothing. Cash donations will also be accepted for relief efforts

How's things going, BigD? You were asking a while ago about where you could find a new sports message to go to talk sports again. I guess you have found "Castle Anthrax". You must feel like a kid in a candy shop here with so many new places to explore. Have fun, my friend. I'll stop by to comment every now and again. See you around. JJ

Welcome and cheers Jeff. And yes, like so many, I have landed here. And yes, there are A LOT of places to roam here. That said, I will pretty much be and stay in the MLB area, posting on all thread EXCEPT for the "new daily thread".

And I do enjoy it here more already, as at least this board allows for R rated stuff, you know, like in the real world, and does not try to stay G rated, which ruined a lot of fun. That, and I like that they have an ignore option here, which I have already employed to good use.

I know I will see you around, so do check back in whenever, any time you wish to get away from the thread most traveled.

Bitter.......yea a little bit. I still follow them as their the closest thing I have to a local team (unless you count the Trenton Thunder).
A deal for Stanton would be nice, but you know if they do that you can kiss Wheeler or Harvey goodbye.

Valdespin is so underrated and deserves a full time place in that lineup. Still wouldn't want Ellsbury unless they got him on a short term deal of no more than 3 years (which I doubt would happen).
