The Lions benched LCB Chris Houston in Sunday's Week 7 loss to Cincinnati. Houston got torched by A.J. Green, and the Lions' coaching staff became concerned with his confidence level. On Monday, coach Jim Schwartz wouldn't commit to reinserting Houston into the starting lineup. The Lions take on next a Dallas team boasting one of the NFL's top young receiver corps.

In short, we still need corners.

Maybe we should give the young Lions corners more time to mature. Of course they won't look good being shoved into the starting lineup before they're ready. Levy didn't either.

I personally think Houston gets way too much credit. He's not good. Does he ever make plays? Is he ever consistent? How is it possible to get benched when you're the #1 guy?

Have to put this on the coaches. That's what they teach. Just stay with the man and never locate the ball. Better WRs will have a field day with this kind of coverage even if the CB is in his shirt.

Our Safety play has been good so far though. Quinn worth every penny.

Houston isn't too bad- solid #2/ borderline #1 has been the feel from the fans here on the board for a while now. He had a big year in 2011, and was so-so last year. That being said he's 29 and only has a few good years left in the tank one would think.

CB, imo, is a position you just never quit adding to. I'd be happy if we took a CB in the top 4 rounds every single draft. It's the toughest position to play in the NFL, and the injury rate is high too. Just keep adding big, fast, physical CBs every draft and we'll keep the system stocked.

Slay, Bentley and Green all look like keepers. Slay has taken his lumps, but that's to be expected of a rookie. He's got all the tools to be a true #1. Bentley's play has improved noticeably since the beginning of the season; if he keeps progressing he'll be a very nice presence for us in the slot for a long time. Green hasn't seen much time this year, but was better than expected last year and will only continue to improve.

Mathis and Houston aren't bad options right now, but they're not the future of our defense, either. I'd love to see us continue to take a CB in the first four rounds every year, like I said. I just feel like it's a position where you need at least 3 starters and one or two more guys who can start when somebody inevitably gets injured.

I like this direction of bigger, stronger CBs. Hopefully we continue to stock that cupboard...

Hindsight doesn't apply here. Just sight. Houston was done at the time of this thread. Then Mayhew said no worries. Houston is fine. Then he said Green and Greenwood would contribute this year.

Keep kicking it up. Call me troll. I don't care.

I demand way more from my GM. This fucking loser is killing the team we love and I seem to be the only one noticing this shit.

3 CBs Mayhew said would be here in 2014 ALL GONE.

Lick it up.

I got your back on our secondary.....It blows beyond college football secondary comprehsion......But lets not throw the rest of the team under the bus....

When a team drops 40 on us that won't be Staffords fault or Reggie Bushs fault......

Sorry man. When someone comes on here and declares a week one game 'must win', I assume he's a Mr. Magoo from that point.

RobBase.....

I proposed this question to you previously on another thread.... a week 1/2 ago.... What CB would GM RobBase drafted in years

2011
2012
2013
2014

Forget 2009 (needed a QB but not necessarily TE Pettigrew with that 2nd 1st rd pick) and the same goes for 2010 (needed Suh at that time)

What say you, RobBase....... ?

I'm not trolling you. I'm sure as hell not a antagonist....

You guys gotta start differentiating between the term "secondary" and the CB position. Our secondary, as a whole, does not suck. Our CBs, individually do.

Just sayin'.

Also, why does Mayhew get zero credit (apparently) for drafting Slay at the top of round two last year? He was like 5 picks out of the first round. It's not as if he hasn't used any prime draft picks on the position recently. Maybe some think he should have used more draft capitol at the position, which is fine, but don't act like it's been totally ignored.

Slay sucks, bro. We can argue about it for the next 3 years until he is gone.
