I think you mean "5. Perez" with Feliz as a closer/set up role.
I'm assuming Perez is involved in the trade for Stanton

This year they have AJ and no other options for the OF. If they sign a better OF option, it makes sense. What suggests that? They have 2 OF spots to fill and if they were concerned with his defense, wouldn't they have already moved him to DH this year given what happened with Berkman?

God I hope not, give them Feliz/Colby instead.

My opinion - do not sign Cruz next year. Time to move on...I don't like that his stupid actions may potentially disrupt if not end our chance at a playoff run this year, and he needs to answer to his teammates on this. The man makes millions, needs to be held accountable for his actions. Sorry, just not that sympathetic on this subject. Here is what I would like to see happen in the off season:
1. Do what it takes to sign Garza
2. Lock up Cruz with something similar to the 2 year $16M contract Melky got. It might be a little more pricey and he might just want to do a one year thing to prove himself so he can get something bigger.
3. Make a trade for Stanton happen, do what it takes to get him and get the Marlins interested. I realize this is still a long shot though.
4. Use the money you save on Cruz and Stanton on someone like McCann and maybe Morales.
That might be a ton to ask for though. Who am I kidding it is a ton to ask for. But the resulting lineup and rotation would be sick:
1.Kinsler 2B
2. Andrus SS
3. Stanton LF
4. Beltre 3B
5. Morales DH
6. Cruz RF
7. McCann C
8. Martin CF
9. Moreland 1B
1. Yu
2. Harrison
3. Garza
4. Holland
5. Feliz
I'm with you. No to Perez. Good pitching is to hard to find.God I hope not, give them Feliz/Colby instead.

Completely agree...Perez is off limits....unless the Tigers want to talk about Cabrera...:rollseyes:I'm with you. No to Perez. Good pitching is to hard to find.
Colby is a FA, and Feliz won't get it done having just come back from TJ surgery

Well, I understand your opinion and it seems like it is shared by most on here but I'm pretty certain that if we see Cruz on this roster next season, he will be playing OF, maybe some DH but I doubt that would be his everyday role. I wouldn't even be objective to him taking the DH role, I just don't see it happening realistically. Hopefully, I'm wrong b/c there really isn't anyone that exciting available at DH anyway beyond Morales and I really don't like him all that much.
Well regardless, if we trade for Stanton I'd prefer not to trade away what amounts to probably the best #5 pitcher in the league. Find another way to make it work.
I personally don't think we could get Stanton with out Perez and Profar being the key pieces of the deal. That is unless they want to hang Holland out there and the way he is pitching lately... NO!

I also don't want to see Manny anywhere near the big club.
Then it doesn't work, and I wasn't advocating trading for Stanton anyway, never have, I was just telling you why trading either of those guys won't work
Direct your "Find another way to make it work" comment to someone else
A little touchy, aren't we? You quoted me, I quoted you back. There's no way for any of us to know if a package could or could not be put together for Stanton without including Perez. I think it could.
Doesn't take much effort to realize that I didn't make the proposal
Perhaps you think Cruz has a ton of options for next year, most of us realistically don't, Cruz will not be calling any shots on his situation next year if he wants to play, he's not in a position of power at all
the market will be slim like it was for Melky, who just happened to get the Blue Jays to pay up b/c they were desperate to make a run, and they took a flier on him, and considering Melky has essentially been a bust, good luck using him as a positive example, Cruz will face the same concerns
