Wash said they have plan A, B, C, and D. Butler looks like plan Q based on his stats for this season. You have got to be kidding that he is the best available option in all the Rangers minor league system. Hell I would rather them try out Manny for a couple weeks than waste time on this deal. At least Manny might see something to help out Moreland or Murphy. He did something to help Olt about two days after he arrived. I am not in love with Manny either but at least he has a history and big stage experience.

Yea ... Manny certainly has a history and his big stage experience is mostly the stage he put himself on.

I don't see why you think Butler who is hitting ... .290/.375/.437/.812 ... would be a waste of time while trying out Manny with his ... .267/.333/.389/.722 wouldn't be?

I also don't see Manny "seeing something" that would help Moreland or Murphy ... and willing to share it ... while all TEX coaches, Beltre, Cruz, Kinsler and AJ couldn't.

I'm sorry -- that's preposterous.

Darryl, it is baseball so who knows. Thousands of possibilities. Perhaps having a Gentry and E. Beltre in the line up more often means more stolen bases putting RISP and doubles scoring more runners from 1B. Who knows, but one advantage of having both of those dudes in the line up at the same time is a twofold increase in speed on the bases, but they have to get on base. But of course RW will probably sit E Beltre and keep Murphy in.
Nothing is for certain but you can bet that Wash will have Murphy in there. At this point E. Beltre would be a risk worth taking. We know that Murphy is not going to do more to help the club than what we have seen already. To make up what we lose in Cruz will not come without change.

Regardless of the Cruz situation I'm glad they didn't. Nothing out there would've made a significant impact.

I agree with you and for the long term it didnt make sense to trade for anything out there. If i remember correctly i believe Alex Rios was really the only legit trade possibilty and that tells you how bad this deadline was.

With that said, its hard to get excited about Gentry/Beltre in the outfield along with Murphy. I guess we just have to take our medicine as fans this year and be excited for the future. I believe Daniels does make a big move this off season for a outfielder that will be a difference maker.

Oh I think we see him in uniform

Do those who think TEX will shun Cruz think DET will shun Peralta?

Cruz will be playoff eligible by being on the suspended list as of midnight 31 August. Unless someone catches lightning in a bottle between now and then there is every bit to reason Cruz will be on the TEX postseason roster. Assuming they get there.

I am glad to see Berkman attempt to 'play' still but see this as very futile. A saving grace for this team is still to see Murphy and Moreland get hot. :hope:

Some of the lineup changes are making a difference. Martin at lead off, not bad he gets on base; Elvis now hitting and getting on base. Behind them is Ian and Beltre. So at least we should be getting run production from the top and middle of the order.

1st base. Mitch has regressed.

Moreland has looked much better the last couple games, hopefully its a sign he's coming out of the funk he was in, but Baker getting ABs against LHPs is not necessarily a bad thing either

Better chance of Mitch and Murph getting hot than Berkman doing anything.

What I don't get is all the people that claim to know why he didn't appeal. Sure, him not appealing is a good business decision since he is a FA next season but who is to say that is the only reason he didn't appeal. Maybe, he just wanted to shoot straight with everyone and come clean. Maybe the penalties for appeal would have ended up making things worse. Who is to say he would have been able to play the rest of the season if he did appeal. None of us know the extent of the evidence either. Do you think the Rangers would want him to appeal if he was guilty? Anyway, my point is, why would him appealing so that he can play a little longer make him a better person or more loyal to the team. It seems like a rather silly way to view things.
Like fed justice system, if they lose appeal without taking the plea, MLB is going to hammer these guys double or triple time to make an example. Simple thing like others have said ask the team physician if the substance is copacetic even if bought @ Walgreens. With. Millions on the line why not. Like an OF with EB, CG, & LM.

Regardless as to how we do in the playoffs, this off season will be very, very interesting. Would not be surprised to see Cruz here again. Would not make him a priority, however.

I think they will be fine for making the playoffs as long as they don't let the loss of Cruz effect them mentally they way some of these losing streaks they have had to bounce back from have. I think they have the tools both defensively and on the mound. I also think they have enough offense to make it work and an easy enough schedule. I just don't see them making it far if the hang there heads at this suspension. Time for the vets to step up and say we got to get this done regardless and see if it happens. Still a ton of baseball left.

I just wish we could have seen what type of numbers Cruz was going to put up this season, he was on his way to a career season.

Unlike some, I do think we will score enough runs to win but not necessarily without change in philosophy. Small ball and plate discipline may be other ways to score. I do not think we have taken full advantage of the speed and talent on this team and class pitching will add to our chances just at the right time.

Yeah, but the problem (take a look at the list) is the list is of aging players. All of which will want a deal taking them into their 60's no doubt:) No Stanton's on that list, some aging players. Now the ones that are in the mid 30s may take a two year deal but the ones in the lower 30's are going to want the Josh Hamilton multi year deal. I say we don't go FA unless it is Ellsbury and try trading to get a younger power bat.

So you selectively follow the "rules" that make sense to you? Even Emerson opined on this. He said if someone was to be a nonconformist, they should expect to suffer the consequences.

But I digress.

You mentioned your approach to ethics is different. Would I be wrong in saying your ethics includes being honest? If honesty is part of your ethics then I would assume if you sign a contract with a business and they have rules for you follow, you would do so. If you did not like some of their rules and you were honest, then you would not sign their contract, right? Or if you did honestly sign their contract and you broke one of their rules, you would expect to be punished, right?

Well that is what we are seeing played out with the MLB and MLBPA right now. We had players agree to a CBA in good faith and now have broken that trust by breaking rules they signed up to honor.

Yet if honesty is not an important part of your 'approach' to ethics, then you have good company in today's post-modern society...especially in politics, entertainment and sports!
So you made plenty of assumptions about me based on a conversation between me and another person.

I do not follow the rules because they are rules. Read some Kohlberg and you will see what he thinks about those kind of people. I am also not Kantian. I follow the non aggression principle in life.

Only guys even worth kicking the tires on are Ellsbury, Choo, Pence, and Morales

So yeah I agree, the price tag is probably going to be ridiculous for Ellsbury and Pence... Choo and Morales I'm not sure about

In your system of ethics if you sign a contract saying you will follow the rules and then don't, what should happen?
