Yeah, but the problem (take a look at the list) is the list is of aging players. All of which will want a deal taking them into their 60's no doubt:) No Stanton's on that list, some aging players. Now the ones that are in the mid 30s may take a two year deal but the ones in the lower 30's are going to want the Josh Hamilton multi year deal. I say we don't go FA unless it is Ellsbury and try trading to get a younger power bat.

That's what he was saying, no real FA's that will make an impact so we should be trading in the off season instead.

Evan Grant @Evan_P_Grant

Adam Rosales is DFA'd to make room for Joey Butler. At least his acquisition forced Oakland to change its signs over the weekend.

Bye bye Rosales

I wouldn't sign a contract I didn't agree with ethically.

So if you were a MLB quality player you would not sign a contract with a team. The players that did, negotiated the drug policy and signed up to obey it.

I wouldn't be a part of the MLBPA. I don't need other people fighting for my best interest.

Here is what I would like to see happen in the off season:
1. Do what it takes to sign Garza

2. Lock up Cruz with something similar to the 2 year $16M contract Melky got. It might be a little more pricey and he might just want to do a one year thing to prove himself so he can get something bigger.

3. Make a trade for Stanton happen, do what it takes to get him and get the Marlins interested. I realize this is still a long shot though.

4. Use the money you save on Cruz and Stanton on someone like McCann and maybe Morales.

That might be a ton to ask for though. Who am I kidding it is a ton to ask for. But the resulting lineup and rotation would be sick:

1.Kinsler 2B
2. Andrus SS
3. Stanton LF
4. Beltre 3B
5. Morales DH
6. Cruz RF
7. McCann C
8. Martin CF
9. Moreland 1B

1. Yu
2. Harrison
3. Garza
4. Holland
5. Feliz

Would much rather go after Pence to play RF and keep Cruz around to Dh.

I agree with you and for the long term it didnt make sense to trade for anything out there. If i remember correctly i believe Alex Rios was really the only legit trade possibilty and that tells you how bad this deadline was.

With that said, its hard to get excited about Gentry/Beltre in the outfield along with Murphy. I guess we just have to take our medicine as fans this year and be excited for the future. I believe Daniels does make a big move this off season for a outfielder that will be a difference maker.

That's going to be the norm too. Because of the second wild card, big trades will occur during the winter now.

Yea ... Manny certainly has a history and his big stage experience is mostly the stage he put himself on.

I don't see why you think Butler who is hitting ... .290/.375/.437/.812 ... would be a waste of time while trying out Manny with his ... .267/.333/.389/.722 wouldn't be?

I also don't see Manny "seeing something" that would help Moreland or Murphy ... and willing to share it ... while all TEX coaches, Beltre, Cruz, Kinsler and AJ couldn't.

I'm sorry -- that's preposterous.
I catch your drift however Butler has just 10 HR and 21 doubles in about 100 Games at AAA (if memory is roughly correct). That equates to 5 HR and 10 doubles for 50 games. If you give him credit for being about 50% as effective on the big club as the AAA team which seems fairly likely to me then maybe he hits 3 HRs and perhaps 8 doubles for the rest of the season and that assumes he gets playing time anywhere near 50 games but I suspect he will not be getting anywhere near 50 games. Add to that he will be pressing something terrible to prove he belongs on the big team and it suggests to me that he is highly unlikely to do much at all. He is going to be sitting the bench much of the time in my opinion and his skills as they are will diminish pretty quickly if he gets only a game or two a week of play.

As for Manny I grant you he is nothing great at this stage of his career but if it is the last game of the season and I need a walk off hit to reach the playoffs I would prefer to live and die with Manny rather than Butler.

As for Manny seeing something that others have missed the fact is he did with Olt. It is also a fact that Pudge saw something with EA after 90 odd games that helped him. A different set of respected fresh eyes looking at some who is struggling never hurts. I hope Butler is the next coming of Trout but he is more likely just as desperate a roster move as adding Manny would be. Neither move is preposterous it is just a FO move doing the best they can with a weak situation.

You honestly think Cruz would except a DH role, especially as a FA? He seems to really enjoy playing defense, he talks about that a lot. And despite him not being the best defender, he still isn't really a liability out there like some people claim. I agree, it would be nice to have him at DH and I would love to have a guy like Pence or Choo but just don't see him signing into a DH role. Maybe I'm wrong though.

If he wants to stay in Texas he might have to.

He's not a liability defender but not good either

Unlike some, I do think we will score enough runs to win but not necessarily without change in philosophy. Small ball and plate discipline may be other ways to score. I do not think we have taken full advantage of the speed and talent on this team and class pitching will add to our chances just at the right time.
Just not sure we necessarily have the man in charge for that. Lot to ask in for in late mid season, tho.

Did you see the JD article why he hired Wash? It' on here somewhere several pages back. Based on that article you may be right.

Considering how often he gets hurt playing the OF chasing down balls he initially got a bad jump on? Yeah I'd think it reasonable for him to spend a good amount of time DHing, will that happen? nobody knows at this moment and time

If he wants to stay in Texas he might have to.

What suggests that? They have 2 OF spots to fill and if they were concerned with his defense, wouldn't they have already moved him to DH this year given what happened with Berkman?
