Anyone think it has anything to do with TA seemingly having trouble finding the LBs in coverage? Seems like there's been a couple times so far this year that he's hit a LB right in the hands that dropped into coverage that he didn't see.

Coincidence?

The purpose of this thread was because I seriously thought Beck was going to start using the tight end more. The post above was what gave me the false impression. That and a lot of hope anyway. :L

BTW, I was wrong about having a senior TE in my earlier post. There isn't one, but my point still stands regarding Bo's thought process regarding the importance of a good receiving TE 4-5 years ago. It was a "walk-on" position where they either pan out as a blocker or not.

Could be.

Or it could be the tight end not running his route, not knowing the play call, or getting jammed up at the line of scrimmage.

I just know it seems non-existent.

The "why" is frustrating.

I was thinking more from a play calling standpoint...like they didn't want to call a play with the TE over the middle because they're afraid Armstrong won't find the LB and throw a pick. Just speculation, obviously.

Oh. I agree completely that Bo is overly cautious to the point of looking dumb.

Prime example is special teams the last couple years. They wouldn't go for the block OR the return on punts.

"Everybody watch for the fake!!!!. Oh good they didn't fake it. Unfortunately our field position is inside our own 10"

I was watching Michigan St's field goals and extra points last Saturday. NEVER did a Nebraska defensive lineman or LB put their hands up for the block if the kick happened to be low.

My only thought is Bo finds it more important for them to watch for a fake. :noidea:

When Bo was brought in I expected an attacking/aggressive team. I've gotten the exact opposite. "Bend but don't break and prevent defense".

I liked Kyler Reed a lot too, but if you look back to 2012 I don't think he was that under-utilized.

First off, consider the fact that he and Ben Cotton were both in the same class. Ben was probably the best all-around blocker we had on the team, so he was going to see plenty of snaps himself. Kyler was a bit more of a hybrid WR/TE and was going to be used in certain packages.

Next, consider that we had Kenny Bell, Quincy Enunwa, and Jamal Turner (among others) to spread the wealth amongst.

When it was all said and done, between Cotton and Reed, the two shared the 2nd most receptions and overall most targets on the team in 2012.

In my opinion, Beck saw Tommy slinging home run balls on the money in practice and immediately started salivating, ultimately defaulting into NES Nintendo Tecmo Super Bowl mode.

I don't recall Tommy throwing many deeps balls.

I haven't watched it again, so I could be wrong. :noidea:

OK I can get behind that. It just seems to me that a TE like Reed would have thrived in a TM passing attack....

With Taylor was under center we had more of a "system" offense. We spread the ball around to a lot of guys and most of his throws were purposely kept in the 4-9 yard range.

With Tommy it's been different. Yea we hand it off to Ameer a lot, but still.

I wonder why Beck chose to not speak to the media this year at all, by the way.....

Also I was kinda hoping back when we recruited Carter he would move to LB...

We are thin at LB and heavy with TEs that we don't use properly.

I remember Taylor completing passes to like 8 or 9 different guys in one game once. I can't remember which game it was, but it was early in the year and they were the short 4-9 yd variety. I was drinking the Kool-Aid after that outing.

Tommy needs to play smarter or Beck needs to help him play smarter.

He has all the physical tools. What we don't know is if the game will ever slow down for him mentally like it eventually does for good QB's. I gave him the benefit of the doubt, but I'm beginning to wonder with the INT's piling up again. Completion percentage I'm not concerned with.

Tagge wasn't a better athlete than Van Brownson back in '69. However, he took the job from him because he had a better mental grasp of the game.

You give me a TE who can block and I'm happy as can be.

Of course, a TE who can block is also going to be wide open on play action as well.

I hate to say it, but if you wanna see a team utilize TEs the right way, watch the Dallas Cowboys. :dhd:
