What it all comes down to is Nebraska is just not a household name anymore......plain and simple. Thee kids who are 18 years old now don't remember what happened 18 years ago when Nebraska was dominant.

Same thing happened to programs like Oklahoma and Alabama. They made it back to elite status, but it took a while and they had their struggles too.

The recruits just aren't going to be interested until we start winning Championships. It's gotta start happening soon or we're gonna be treading ground that we already know for years.

AMEN!!!..

Someone mentioned JUCO DL for this season... Fort Scott CC (Lavonte David, Jermarcus Hardrick, Stanely Jean-Baptiste, Brandon Kinnie) has been a bit of a feeder for us in the past and we are in on one of the top JUCO DTs in the nation, Abu Lamin is a massive human standing at 6'5" 310 pounds, he's got quick feet and powerful hands. He has offers from Arkansas, Arizona State, Auburn, Tennesee, and South Carolina among others.

Why is this big news? Because Lamin is a HUGE Ndamukong Suh AND Lavonte David fan. He's coming up to BRW and cannot stop talking about how excited he is. Nebraska failed miserably getting JUCO DTs last recruiting period, Lamin would be a massive get (no pun intended) if we could land him. He's a semester enrollee, so we'll know by December for sure.

Biggest battle will be keeping SC off BC his family from north Carolina so he said his mom could see him play. But if you went to KS for football that cant be deal breaker

Michigan just landed the number 1 CB and number 2 overall prospect in the country according to rivals.

Why the hell weren't we in on this kid? I thought we were making an effort to get in NJ.

Peppers grew up a Michigan fan. That, along with Mattison, gave us all the advantage we needed.

Any word on Claude Pelon?

JUCO DT that is basically begging to come to Nebraska? 6'4" and 285 pounds.

Not sure if it is real, but he supposedly has offers from USC, Florida State, Arizona, Arizona State, and all of 12 other AQ schools..., but we haven't offered, and he supposedly really wants an offer from Nebraska?

Kid is the real deal but the coaches haven't met with him in person yet. From what i've heard it sounds like an offer could be comming soon, but I could be wrong. Abu Lamin is definitely #1 on our list right now and I don't think the coaches want to take 2 JUCO DTs.

NUT
Why wouldn't the coaches want to take 2 Juco DT, ESP since we're thin/not healthy or not developing them well ???

Scholarship numbers is the reason... I think they want to take 5 DL this year and would rather take 1 JUCO with 4 HS players. They'll take two if the numbers line up and he's the right guy, but going the JUCO route is always a bit of a gamble.

I understand just thinking we need all the help DL wise. Plus when's the last time we can say the staff truly developed a couple DL players to their potential. But I think the staff has done fairly well on the Juco route

We've done plenty well with JUCO offensive players and defensive LBs and CBs but our track record with DL JUCOs is not that strong. Joe Carter is the only JUCO DL that Pelini has ever gotten here, and he had a serviceable but not great career. Now both of these guys are better than Carter coming in, but still.

It's hard to pin much development on the current staff. Rich Kazinski has only been here for one year, give him another few years, he's been known for his ability to develop strong Defensive Linemen out of mediocre talent, let's hope that trend continues at Nerbaska.

Hey nut probally to early to tell but I would really like some good news on Khairi Clark any word yet I know that we made his final 6. The only other Northern school would be Norte Dame.

Also I get most of my recruiting information from Huskerboard.com Do you have any sites that you can recemmend on recruiting.

Khairi Clark would be a HUGE pull from Florida, but it's going to be tough. It's been fairly quiet on his front lately and unfortunately I don't like Nebraska's chances as much as I did at first. I think he probably ends up in Miami, but could go Florida or another SEC school. Notre Dame intrigues him but if he were to leave the south I honestly think he would choose Nebraska over Notre Dame.

That being said, I don't see him leaving the south.

Nebraska's best shots at HS DTs right now are Peyton Newell and Thomas Holley. I think both have more up side than Clark, but Clark could contribute early, I think both Newell and Holley (most Holley) are too raw to make an immediate impact.

Abu Lamin would be that quick fix... though the quicker fix would have been getting either Quincy Russell or Lavon Hooks last year. Downright unbelievable we couldn't pull one JUCO DT in... not often you make the top 5 for the 4 of the best JUCO DTs in the nation and not have one pick you.

I think if we could get Khairi Clark he's plenty ready to play early, and Neberaska is in on Andrew Brown still (he would be a game changer) but I wouldn't hold my breath on that one.

As for recruiting services... the normal ones like Scout, Rivals and 247 all have their merits and bring good info. I like 247 the best. HuskerMax has good boards as well, but I only get some info from those sources.

Yeah I was shock and disappointed too. Could DT not be happy with our system?? it's not your free style attack attack like some other schools do.

While that's been true in the past that's not the reason either Lavon or Quincy turned us down. Smart DTs realize that if they truly believe they are elite they can thrive in a 2-gap, and if you can thrive in a 2-gap you can thrive in any technique on the DL.

yea, i didn't understand that either. Juco players want to play immediately to give them the best shot at the NFL. Seems to me NU would have been the best place with basically no one at DT. Seems to me like there had to be something else going on there.

Nebraska's not the only school that lacks depth at DT, most other schools do too. It's one of the hardest positions to recruit and develop in college. Oklahoma needed DTs really bad (got Russell) as did Ole Miss.

But as other coaches high school coaches have said and even huskerpedia had some articles on it. 2 gap is not practiced much in high school plus it's not DT friendly unless your SUH like and can manhandle a OL by yourself.

One would think after SUH success in 08-09 that DT should be flying to us but it has been the opposite.
