If the Pats want to secure a legit WR in FA do they need to secure a LT first? Having the ability to say, we know we have the QB to get the ball down the field. We just secured a top notch LT to protect him and give him that extra second, all we need now is a WR to stretch the field. IMO it will be hard to convince a WR to come here if they think getting them the ball will be an issue.

Not sure if a GM can wait to negotiate with one until he signs another?

Have to put offers out to every position or at least player that fits a need. If A OT signs while still in negotiation with a WR then give him an update.

Otherwise just tell them of plans to sign or draft?

Agreed. Let any potential WR know "Hey we want you here in NE and we are making great strides in shoring up out O line.

I think LT is a higher priority anyway. What good is the best WR in football if you can't get him the ball often.

Ohhh I agree my point was to make potential WRs aware that the team is making efforts to shore up the line now that we have the QB
Agree, and the best way to make them aware is to have offers ready to go the second FA opens. Make it a substantial offer starting with the 1st targeted OL on their list. Make it good for 24 hours. Then contact the 2nd, 3rd option after that. No more penny pinching. Go fast and hard. Getting Oline help should be their only concern at the start of FA. Come on Kraft make this happen.

No. The minute the Super Bowl clock hits 0:00, Wolfe or Vrabel have to be on the phone with the agents of all available LTs. Can't wait around for legal times and dates because the best of the best will already have agreed to agree on March 16th when the legal tampering period starts. Opening free agency for tampering is nothing more than announcing that a team and a player agreed back in February.

If they haven't started trying to find out if a player has decided to resign with his team, someone is dropping a very deflated ball.

Have a friend or family member of the target talk with the target and tell him the patriots want him.

Wait can they do that? I thought contact with players or agents prior to tampering date was not allowed! Am I incorrect?

Well the last damn thing we need with a new coach is a potential scandal. Fuck that, wait like we are supposed to.
And you'll miss out on every #1,#2, #3,#4 in every position. No one else is waiting.

BB was so carefully watched that he would always wait until the legal tampering periods and find out that every player he wanted had already agreed with another team. Instead of calling out the player or team, he'd attribute it to other teams being more clever or sneaky.

No one is going to blow a whistle if they want a payday.

No more scandals for this team. The legacy is already tarnished in many people's eyes.

I wonder if someone on the staff just happens to be at the same steak house that the targeted player is at on a given night. Not prescheduled just by chance. It's easy to learn someone's patterns. The staffer drops by said players table and says hello. Says something to the effect that NE is really looking at him. He may want to sit on his hands until FA opens. Magically the players check has been paid in cash.

Would that be considered tampering?

You don't know what anyone else is doing. And if your offer is right and the player wants to come here they will. Again rules are in place to be followed. You assuming this takes place does not make it so
