Craig Bohl took NDSU above Nebraska...

2014 Preseason Top 25: A first guess - CBSSports.com

Look who almost breaks the top 25 mentions and who doesn't.

Ya I saw that and thats why I ask. Not taking anything away from NDSU , they have a great program and are doing very very well, but if they arent going FBS they shouldnt even be considered in the polls much less ranked.

But I suppose if they are going to be mentioned it is only fitting that it be in what I view as a waste of paper, the "preseason poll"

They were getting mention in the 2013 regular season poll (weeks 14, 15, 16, and the final poll).

They were getting mention when Nebraska was not.

The answer is that the poll is for all Division 1 football. It's not limited to FBS.

FCS is also Division 1.

Had they not beaten Kansas St in Manhattan, I doubt they'd have gotten mention.

Only two of those voters were considered "Extreme Voters" in the final poll. They are Chris Murray and Joe Giglio.

Even Sam McKewon and Chris Fowler were considered "Extreme Voters".

:noidea: what an extreme voter is...

It's in the link under "Extreme Voters"

Extreme Voters
(Voters with the highest number of rankings on the extreme, and voters with the highest number of rankings near the extreme. All rankings must be in the top/bottom 10% to qualify.)

I get the "rank" & "agree". But what is the "highest" & "lowest" in the chart?

Not sure what you're asking?

They compare where a voter ranks their teams compared to the average of where everyone else ranks that team. If they are out of a certain window, that particular ranking is considered Extreme.

They count up the # of Extreme rankings (out of the window) each voter has and rank them in an Extreme Voter list.

Voters.............Extreme Near Extreme Total

Rob Long.............5...............2................7
Robert Cessna......5...............1................6
Joe Giglio............4................3................7
Sam McKewon ....4................3................7
Chris Murray........3................3...............6
Patrick Brown.......2...............4................6
Pete DiPrimio.......2................4...............6
Chris Fowler........1................5...............6

Maybe the press should just do their job and write articles about NDSUs success, they do deserve recognition for the success, instead of ranking them with teams that they wouldnt have that kind of success with.

That's an entirely different subject to debate.

Your OP was "why are they in a poll with FBS teams?".

It's because the poll is for Division 1 teams and FCS is also Division 1.
