Yeah it’s the kind of thing you get out there without getting it out there lol. His Dad is good.

Now...if it came out that it was from his Dad, that wouldn't surprise based on what you've said. He seems to have a little bit of a Lavar Ball vibe only a lot quieter. lol

All of the reports on this from the jump have been worded “Caleb Williams camp” or “Caleb Williams people”. It was never presented as a direct comment from Williams. Good on the kid for understanding the nature of the business of sports. People see him as a generational prospect. He’d be foolish not to use that to his advantage to probe and see what he can monetize based on the way he’s seen.

Risky to play a bullpen day though without a day off tomorrow. That’s a lot of pressure on Montgomery to give them 6+ innings on Friday. They had to use five bullpen arms last night because of Scherzer. All of them were below 20 pitches and could be available tonight as well. But Friday would be three days in a row for those arms that were used last night.

They really have no choice. It’s just a bad spot. Astros have more starting pitching depth. The longer the series goes that makes a big difference. The more you get into these series you give great hitters the chance to get multiple looks at the arms in the pen. For me (and analytics as well) that equals advantage hitter.

At the same time, the Rangers are about mashing the baseball. They can hit their way out of these problems. They lost last night but still plated 5 and that’s without much from 1-5 in their lineup.
Isn't Gray back? Or they can use former starters from the season? Maybe go from Heaney to Dunning

Yeah, as long as it's legal, I have no issue with any player getting what he can when he can. In football you're always 1 play away from a career ending/altering injury.

Gray pitched an inning last night and gave up a big run. They could piggy back Heaney/Dunning giving each guy one trip through the lineup. That would save them pen for Friday. Not a bad idea at all. I think Rangers have to think like they need 2 of the next 3 because Game 7 is advantage Astros. Scherzer came back too quickly. Didn’t see a lot of snap on his stuff last night. Looked pretty mediocre. Can you give him the ball again in Game 7? If you do, he’s likely only good for one time through.

Sports is always evolving when it comes to monetization. I think all sports need a layer for the Uber Uber super star. Guys like Steph, LeBron, Jordan, Brady, etc… are making their franchises ridiculous levels of revenue. There should be a pathway for that Uber elite level to get a percentage of ownership in the team. You need people willing to be Curt Flood in order to establish that as a layer of the system. I like that Williams has stepped up in this way. We are entertained by the athletes and not the suits that own the team. The problem with my idea is that it gets saturated over time and instead of you getting an overpay of Kirk Cousins or DeShawn Watson by giving them a fully guaranteed when it doesn’t happen much in that league now those situations result in a player having partial ownership. And then another problem…a conflict of interest once said player is traded or wants to move on in free agency. They’ll have to liquidate ownership. It can get complicated.

I think we are years away from this. But this is how it starts.

Mike Florio just said that his NFL sources that he trusts told him that Calebs Dad has been telling prospective agents that they want part of the team.

That shit is risky! Nobody can deliver on that. He has inadvertently walked his son into a situation where he’s going to go with the most compelling sheisty liar. No agent can make that happen.

@thunderc has been saying all along that the Dad is a piece of work and a problem.
Mainly a piece of work, I mean it’s his kid but yeah, can be looked at as a problem. I just know when he came to OU the family uprooted and came with him. I don’t think think that’s normal.

Also…I have to take a step back and point this out. This board has multiple forums for talking baseball, football, college sports, etc… but it doesn’t matter what sport we are talking about, you guys represent the best sports chatter on the site. Thanks to everybody for the eternal conversation. Good shit.

On the surface it’s not. At the same time, Caleb Williams has the potential to be a 9 figure meal ticket for generational wealth for an entire family. When you start analyzing it that way, you actually think why don’t more families do that in honing and developing that meal ticket. He’s still in his formative years and I can see a family wanting a hands on approach to be close.

Maybe we bring stuff out of each other, whether it’s best or worst is up in the air lol.

And of course NIL makes things like that a lot more possible.

Sports is passion! That’s the edge. Sports is the one area of my life where I can immediately go back to that child like wonder, excitement, and anticipation. It’s the tits. When you can find that with other people and it doesn’t have to be excused or explained it’s just refreshing.

Yep. I think of Todd Marinovich’s famous (or infamous is better) Dad and what he did. The risk of that investment is reduced when you can monetize the asset you’re building as early as 17-18 years old.
