I like the Phillies and a lot of their players. I really like Harper and Turner and Wheeler. I am rooting for them against the Braves.

I just said that Bohm, a former #3 overall pick, has sucked and been a huge dissapointment. 4 years in he has a combined WAR of about 1 (or less) depending on where you look. Not 1 WAR per season- 1 WAR COMBINED.

he cant hit for average (though he did for his first 2-3 months of his career and then just fell off a cliff), he has mediocre to below average power, he cant run at all, and he definitely cant defend. He does nothing well on the baseball field.
^^^ When you only pay attention to baseball spreadsheets and not real baseball.

You have a history of this, latching on to a take about a player and driving it well past reality.

Bohm is a decent player, wish there were a few like him on the Giants. He's not a Hall of Famer, so what? He doesn't suck. And draft position in baseball, like the baseball playoffs, is the most randomly uncorrelated of the sports. It means very little and says nothing useful about a player.

No one can stop you from being wrong once again. Have at it.

We're all homers to a degree, that's literally what fandom is. He's just laughable about it.
stating that runners in scoring position means anything is just total foolishness. Josh Naylor on the Guardians destroyed him for RISP- but I am never going to cite to that as an actual positive because its just total luck. RBI's is luck.

Bohm just does not have the tools he was drafted to have. When you have a ton of at bats, (a ton) and still arent top 15 at your position in homers- your power is mediocre to below average. A .325 OBP is pretty weak- especailly at a corner. Bohm cant run. He is terrible at defense- arguably one of the 2-3 worst defensive players in baseball at his position.

Scouts refer to and grade on 5 skills- hitting, hitting for power, speed, defense, arm. Bohm does have a slightly above average arm. His defense is well well below average. His power is slightly below average. His speed is way below average. His hitting is this year is about average.

If he wasnt a top pick and had that pedigree- and had a very hot first 2-3 months to his career- he likely would have been replaced by now. But when you are the #3 overall pick, and had a very hot first 2-3 months to your career- you get a longer rope- plus he is cheap right now which helps.

hes really not. He has the profile and body type of a slugger that doesnt slug. He is bad at D and slow. When you are bad at defense and slow, and play a corner- you better mash. And he doesnt. homers per at bat are bad. OBP is bad. he doesnt slug. He has no above average skill besides slightly his arm.

his 0.5 WAR at ESPN and 1.1 WAR at Fan Graphs put him among the worst 3rd basemen in baseball. Which makes sense- when you cant run and cant defend you gotta hit- and he isnt good at hitting. Ryan McMahon is as mediocre as they come and he is better than Bohm. KeBryan Hayes cant hit a lick but he is one of the top 3rd basemen defensively and arm wise in baseball. Chapman, Candelario, Muncy, Burger, Suarez, Jung, Paredes, Lewis were all better this year- let alone the elite guys like Ramirez, Devers, Machado, Henderson, Bregman.

There is no way to even make an argument that is halfway sane to say he is in the top half of 3rd basemen. It would be extremely difficult to say he was even top 20- somewhere in the bottom 2/3rds you could make an argument for I guess since you can at least say he was durable this year.

I would go something like this for this year for 3rd base:

Tier 1
1. Riley (premier 3B slugger in baseball)
2. Ramirez (does everything)
3. Henderson (might be #1 next year)
4. Bregman (not his prime #'s but still great)

Tier 2
5. Devers (still at .850 OPS in kind of a down year)
6. Muncy (not a huge fan but he produced)
7. Machado (terrible start but recovered)
8. Chapman (probably 2nd best glove at 3B behind Hayes)

Tier 3
9. Paredes (might be underated- 31 bombs in less than 500 AB's- can play D)
10. Hayes (might have the best glove in baseball at 3B)
11. Candelario (he will drop- great year in his walk year for him)
12. Arenado (bad year)
13. Jung (on the way up- had an injury or would be higher)

Tier 4
14. McMahon
15. Burger (real power- 34 bombs, .828 OPS)
16. Lewis (only because of limited at bats- he will jump up considerably next year)
17. Suarez
18. Flores
19. Bohm

JD Davis and Bohm are practically identical. Bohm does have more upside if you hold onto the hope that he can find the potential he used to have.

Good thing Flores isn't a 3B really anymore because his numbers this year would have him top 8 on this list

I could make an argument over all these teams for Bohm as the starter- some slam dunks- some could go either way.

Yankees really do not have a 3rd basemen
White Sox have Moncada who is also a big time bust
Royals have no legit 3B
Detroit who has Vierling wo is not good
Angels have no 3rd basemen- Rendon was constantly hurt and not good anymore when healthy
A's have no 3rd basemen
Mets are going with Baty who is pretty highly regarded but had a poor year
Nationals have no 3rd basemen
Cubs have Candelario- who had an up year for him- but I would say I would rather have Bohn on the chance he improves
Marlins have Burger who had 34 bombs and has decent/solid D-
Brewers picked up Donaldson who sucks
Longoria is kaput and still playing for the D'Backs
Giants have guys play all over- Flores played a lot at 3B and he def. outplayed Bohm, but he had his best year by a fair margin and is 32.

If you really stretched it maybe make a case for Suarez on the Mariners.

yah its tough for some of the guys that move around- which is pretty prevalent now-a-days. Flores with only 405 at bats- ha d some good numbers. Def. best of his career at 32 years old which is rather odd. His WAR (at ESPN was 2.6 which is solid)- def. highest of his career by a large margin. Chapman didnt have quite the offensive numbers but is def. top 3 defensively- Id rather have Chapman. Paredes was pretty good too and can play some D.

If just by pure numbers You could make hte argument for Flores at 11 or so......but I dont really buy him doing it again. Do you?

I'd say defensively the top tier 3rd basemen are Hayes, Chapman, Arenado. Hayes head and shoulders the best at this point. He was first at the position in DRS at 19----next closest McMahon at 15...the eye test backs it up too for Hayes.

Maybe the reason why the Guardians never win shit is because they don’t understand that coming through with runners on is an important element in winning baseball games. I’m just spit balling here.
Then the Guardians must be one of the shittiest power teams in the history of the sport because Bohm’s 20 HRs would rank 2nd on that squad.
Scouts refer to and grade on 5 skills- hitting, hitting for power, speed, defense, arm. Bohm does have a slightly above average arm. His defense is well well below average. His power is slightly below average. His speed is way below average. His hitting is this year is about average.

You’d replace a guy who hits .275 with 20 HRs and 97 RBIs?!?!? Bwahahaha! That’s why you ride the short bus.
