Interesting. I see where you’re coming from. I had him at a 350-400 touch guy yearly. Perception just seemed like he was grinding weekly with 20 plus carries. It speaks to his great production that I thought he was racking up all those scrimmage yards with more touches than he actually had. Chubb was a great investment for you guys.
I think it helped that while he signed a nice deal he did not go after last dollar. Guessing he just told his agent to get it done and, yes, Browns were willing to pay more than they'd usually like to for a RB for a guy like Chubb.

wild to me that Jarvis Landry tanked so badly he's not even in the league right now.
When it goes it goes in a hurry for most guys. That’s why you see all this panic at the RB position of guys wanting to get value for their work. They know what’s lurking around the corner.

didn't like him?

Seemed like a decent guy
He's OK. Thought that Hard Knocks speech was way overblown. A lot of dumb penalties and key drops it seemed.... and would have been nice if he was the leader many thought he was to have gotten his BFF to buy in.

as fans we have no clue as he hasn't played at all in the games and I think he is nursing an injury.

I get how the RB market has been but does seem like Chubb might be someone they'd try to keep if at all possible....and he did not try to get the last dollar last time (even though signed a nice deal).

What length and value of extension are you willing to give a RB that will turn 28 this season? 2 years? Will he accept that?

I don't know...it almost looks like they franchise him at 29 if they don't have an immediate plan.

Or maybe he sees the writing and goes for a reasonable 2 year deal idk. don't see him getting much more than 2
I don’t know about that assessment. This is likely his last chance at a big signing bonus. These things can go sideways in a hurry. Player believes he’s worth X and has paid his dues. Team has different idea of value. Player feels insulted. Player gets out on the market and comes to find out the team was right about value all along. Then Pride sets in and they take what the original team offered or even less (CJGJ with the Eagles this season) to play for someone else.

I'd like to keep it at 2 years. Maybe 3 if maybe less money/yr.

Would he accept it? Not sure.....but I thought it would take more to sign him to his last deal than it ended up costing.

I've definitely seen that happen a lot.....for us the one that sticks out is Mitchell Schwartz.

he's under contract through next year and making like 12 million. Which is a hair more than Sequan just agreed to. If Chubb is an absolute beast this year (possible) maybe he holds out for an extension but he doesn't seem the type.

Or maybe Cleveland loads up and extends him 3 or 4 years including next year idk. But year 4 he'd be 31 going on 32. It's not completely ridiculous but it's unlikely.

3 years seems reasonable.

The best things these players can do for themselves is to make themselves integral to the culture of the team. When they achieve that, it makes that negotiation so much easier to be successful.

Yes!!! .......and that is why I could see them going a little further for Chubb than they would most players (even as a RB).

Right now the dude averages 5 yards a carry. and yea...behind a top 5 run blocking OL...but still. he keeps that rolling its hard to deny him.

something like 3 years and 21-24 mil could work where we could get out of it after 2 (so maybe $12-15 mil guarantee) maybe?
I could also see it being front loaded in such a way where they are looking at the player being cheaper in the final year or someone who is easy to part with so the cap hit isn’t a big hit. The deal might average 10 over 3 years but it really looks like 14,10,6 per year to get to the 30 million.

Running behind the same OL Hunt has averaged 4.2 over his time in Cleveland. I get some people will want to take away from Chubb by pointing to a plus OL but proof is right there in the stat. .8 yards per carry more is a big difference in reality when judging a back’s effectiveness.

Eagles Colts practice today was cut short due to multiple fights and skirmishes. Must have been a sight.

we do like doing those deals where it's league minimum year 1......though that might only be for huge deals.

I understand the structure that you’re talking about. It’s very popular among teams. Most of the time these deals come with signing bonus of guaranteed money. When you look at the cap ledger, it’s a really small salary but at the same time, a big hunk of the bonus is immediately applied to the cap so that they can get the guaranteed money off the cap sooner and it gives the flexibility later in the contract to make a move.
