A waiting period is just a delay until you receive your firearm. This kid wouldn't have kicked a red flag on any background check. The gun seller doesn't get to flag suspicions based on inventory ordered as you start treading into murky territory when it goes to using best judgement.
3 hundred some rounds for an 18 year old? Seems like further questions should be asked IMO.

It isn’t about the cops lives, I agree with that.

Just a lot of ways cops entering could have made the situation worse.

Depends on the information they had available at the time. Real easy to say in hindsight with what we know right now.

Sounds like a cop out....:drum:

What I did there....I see it

My go-to movie is don't be a menace to south central while drinking your juice in the hood.

Goodfellas is an all time classic.

Lots of good ones, of course....not always as the lead

Last one I saw him in was The Many Saints of Newark, the Sopranos prequel. He had a movie in the works about the 1992 riots with Scott Eastwood and another called Cocaine Bear where, well, a bear eats a bunch of cocaine from a crashed trafficking jet, directed by Elizabeth Banks.

No, was thinking more about the purchases setting off a flag for gun shops and authorities.

From what I read, he had passed a federal background check. So even if there was a national registry, all it would show is that an adult who was old enough to legally buy guns, bought guns legally. That's not going to trigger any red flags.

That's the problem with rando crazy people. You can't really prevent them from doing these things, you can only try to be as prepared as possible so you can end it quickly and limit the damage.

Could always go full UK or Australia and tighten restrictions considerably. That wouldn't upset anyone lol...

Other Countries Had Mass Shootings. Then They Changed Their Gun Laws.

Britain, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Norway: All had a culture of gun ownership, and all tightened restrictions anyway. Their violence statistics now diverge sharply from those of the U.S.

The root issue is the severe lack of mental illness care/diagnosis in this country. Real care, not just psychiatrists.

Saw a stat somewhere ranking the states with the highest gun deaths per capita.

And no surprise, the states with the loosest gun laws had the most gun deaths.

Having more guns does not equal safety.

Agree. I don't know as we need to change the way we approach guns, but we need to change our approach to mental health.

We used to have 72 hour psychiatric assessment holds that, rather than have to try to play amateur psychologist, a police officer could detain a person who was clearly having trouble connecting with reality and take them for assessment and possible treatment.

When my Dad was a cop, he really liked having that option and was pissed when it was taken away.

Imo, not having that option feeds a lot of the homeless problem and a good bit of the crime problem because nothing can really be done until they actually commit a crime. So they end up in jail/prison instead of treatment. Makes no damn sense.
