At least as far as recruiting, he's off to a great start. USC is currently number 10 in the country in overall recruiting class rankings (counting both high school and transfer portal). It could get even better because there are still a couple of highly rated high school kids that are unsigned and they are in the mix for, plus they expect to hit the portal again after the Spring games because there will more players in it.

Of course, none of that means a thing if they don't perform on the field. But at least it's starting to "feel like USC" again.

I thought they might take a stab at Kyle Whittingham.....he would have been a good hire before they made the splashier hire.

I know that Whittingham was on the list of coaches they were interested in. I would have been good with that hire for the most part.

But yeah, he doesn't bring the name recognition (and thus recruiting power) of Riley. So I doubt we would get the recruiting bump. Plus, he just seems like he fits Utah better than USC.

The thing I liked (and disliked) about the Lincoln Riley hire is how quiet it was. The closest I heard to his name being in the mix was, shortly after Helton was fired, a reporter was writing about possible replacements and wondered if USC would "try to hire a big name like Lincoln Riley or someone...".
