@trojanfan12 he wasn't washed when the Seahags moved on from him......was he? Has the game passed him by?
*Mike Tomlin liked this*His biggest weakness, imo, is that he can be too loyal to mediocre assistant coaches, which imo is part of what happened in Seattle.
I love that he is a culture changer.....AP tried to do it but he wasn't ready to be a HC IMO. Was never a coordinator, just a LB coach. He will be 74 in September and when he coaches his 1st Raiders game he will be the oldest head coach to ever coach a game in the NFL. So, it's possible the game has passed him by. For what it's worth, no other coach has his energy...I think that alone will help the Raiders.
Having said that...I would be surprised if it has passed him by. I think that considering the roster, especially the QB, if he were still the Seahawks coach, they'd be about the same as they are now with a coach (who I like btw) who's only 37. In fact, to some degree, all of the teams left in the playoffs play similarly to his Seahawk teams (mobile QB, emphasis on the run and stout defense).
I'd also add that the last time he took a couple of seasons off from coaching, he re-evaluated some things and then went to USC and then the Seahawks and we saw what happened at those 2 stops.
Wouldn't set my expectations too high for the first couple of seasons because he needs to establish a culture for them which is probably going to mean some turnover on the roster. USC didn't really get rolling until about halfway through his 2nd season and he was 14-18 after his first 2 seasons in Seattle.

@trojanfan12 you think it's possible? Or did their relationship turn nasty when they traded Russ?I wonder if Carroll reaches out to Russ?

Washed?
I don’t know about that.
But he is pretty darn old. Typically the older a coach is the tougher time they have relating to players.
Maybe Carrol is cool enough to pull it off?
But I don’t know. This one looks like a nostalgia hire to me.
I would temper enthusiasm.
Maybe 5 years agoSuper jacked about this hire.
Exactly. Anybody else his age and I would be skeptical....but Carroll did a great job at USC and then again at Seattle in the pros. His enthusiasm is contagious and guys like Crosby? I think will love him. Plus, like you said we have a pretty young squad.....it's not this older group of guys that will tune him out.True...but I think Pete may be the exception. He has more energy than coaches half his age and has always related well with younger players which is what the Raiders have.
I don't know as that he'll have the level of success he had in Seattle. But I think that worst case, it could be similar to Mark Jackson with the Warriors...taught them how to play, taught them defense and took them as far as he could...then Kerr came in and finished the job.
Either way, looking at who was left, he was the best available when the Raiders hired him.
Carr is probably available! We have a shit ton of cap space and the draft to make improvements to the team.....and despite the injuries we had......we need to make improvements.....we need some talent.
