imagine if the Guardians would have given Castellanos a similar deal to the Phils and he signed in Cleveland--- and totally blocked Kwan or Gonzalez--- what a disaster.

Phillies are probably- if they hang on- going to make their first playoff series in a decade- but they have some serious issues on their horizon payroll wise and a pretty weak farm system outside of a couple pretty good pitching prospects.

their catcher having a bounce back year has helped them a lot.....Nola and Wheeler are good starters, but teams that play bad D and have bad bullpens usually dont go far in the playoffs. Nola and Wheeler --- if Harper can get his head out of his ass- give them a shot though.
That's the downside about some of these teams having money and just throwing it around. Maybe he bounces back and has a very solid year but last year was a career year. More likely he just gets back to his career averages, this year might be his worst year since his rookie year.

Guardians 4-5 best prospects are still in the minors if you ask me- Rocchio, Valera, Espino, Williams, Naylor.....

If the White Sox get healthy, get a new manager and play with some heart they can win the division next year without a doubt---

Guardians still need to solidfy some stuff---- but it makes me feel good about their future that they are having success with their rebuild without having their highest ceiling guys up yet.
They need some real power in the middle of the lineup. Jose and maybe Gonzalez is that guy but overall they just need more power hitters. Hard to beat teams that have power like the Yankees, they can change a game with one or two pitches. Other than that, I can't complain about anything else. Fielding, baserunning, pitching overall, speed...they have all that. Just lacking that power.

Phil’s aren’t a legit contender yet. They have dominated the bad teams on their schedule to the tune of like .700 baseball against the bottom and like .450-.460 baseball against the top teams in the league. Phil’s are fine payroll wise. I would like to see them trade Hoskins and Nola for some prospects. People bag on their farm because they think reading baseball magazines and websites replace the experience of actually scouting players. The Phillies horrible farm brought a ton of guys up this year because of injury and many of those guys have contributed. This off season the Phil’s are likely to make a run at Trae Turner and if they fall short, they’re likely to have Dansby Swanson as a consolation prize. Castellanos had a bad year. It happens. He will likely bounce back next year. The baseball card doesn’t lie. I would also like to see them spend money on a number 2 starter when they ship out Nola (they won’t; but I would do that).
IF i remember correctly I think Nola has one year left.......they might get a decent amount for him- but not sure they would get enough to justify trading him if they are trying to contend. Gibson is prob. gone- not that he is great- but at least he sucked up innings. Eflin with a 15M mutual option. I dont see how they can really trade Nola esp. since he is at a very good deal of 17M compared to the likely return.

Segura with a 17M option- id let him go- let Stott play 2nd and sign Swanson like you said. Id go Swanson over turner- cheaper and younger.

Still need bullpen and SP......neither Abel or Painter will be ready yet unless they really rush Abel.

Rodon and DeGrom are pretty much gonna be the only good SP out their on the market unless Verlander or Kershaw leave their teams which I highly doubt. I doubt DeGrom leaves either.

Rodon would be a great get for someone - but expensive.

Eovaldi, Carrasco, Bassit, Heaney are kind of that next tier- not gonna find a #2 there but might find a #3.

Tyler Anderson has had a nice year. Clevinger might bounce back a year after TJ.....some interest there maybe.

Painter is ready now and is likely the 5th starter. The organization wants 100 minor league innings before the Bigs. He reached that this year. He has nothing else to prove in the minors. You’re likely right on Nola. The time to move him was last winter. Same with Hoskins. This year there isn’t a ton out there when it comes to starting pitching. Next year’s rotation is likely to be
Wheeler - Nola - Suarez - Falter - Painter. The only one who has a shot of coming back among Gibson, Syndergaard and Eflin is Eflin. I would like to see the Phil’s move on though. Eflin when healthy is a solid back end of the rotation option but he has been hurt seemingly every year.

1. You’ve done no such thing.
2. What’s the difference between being the paper champion from the worst division or the 2nd worst division in the end really? We all know that the Indians are the tallest midget and that’s why they’re in the playoffs.
3. why can't you just admit if division A is better than division B outside their division the division A is better?
answer to 2) I'll let you know when we get to the end.

Phil’s won’t have room for a Rodon bidding war and a SS. SS is the greater need. I’d be tickled if they got Rodon and Swanson. It’s likely one or the other.

I will when you establish that to be the case. You’re debating the relative value of turds. It’s quite desperate and comical from this end.

First comment is so true. And, sure, before the season it's something I'd have wanted to see us do. In addition, down the road, might be a time a move like that is needed. But this season and maybe even next does not look like that time.

Not sure if you saw the postgame celebration, but seemed like JRam pretty much said to Antonetti we need to keep Rosario. also seemed like they were buds so maybe JRam can convince him not to chase the last dollar. If he'll follow lead of JRam I think they'll keep him.

Simple math/logic says it's the case.

Comical is your desperate attempt for some strange reason to downplay what the Tribe was able to accomplish on their budget, with the youngest roster in baseball in what looked to be a rebuilding season. Comical is also thinking winning % is no way to compare divisions

No doubt it helps when you can try to outspend mistakes.

I mean, better to have power than not. Given the choice, though, not sure I'd take a .220 hitter who Ks too much and doesn't walk much but will get you 25 bombs over someone like Kwan.

Care might be a bit strong, but a story of a young team arriving early and maybe making a little noise in the playoffs does generate interest.

Networks will still want Yankees/Dodgers in the World Series, but they'd also like a team like the Indians (sorry, just can't call them Guardians) making some noise in the early rounds.

It's not unlike March Madness. We want the blue bloods in the Final Four, but love the little schools upsetting or throwing a good scare into the big boys.

The highest rated series in the last 15 years involved cleveland.

The Giants are actually part of the two lowest ranked prior to the last 2 years where ratings have nose dived.

Red Sox Cards was also just a 8.9 last time around.

Our fanbase provides that for them. The losingest organization in North American sports history has one of the better tV deals out there.

It's going to be a rough day when Dickie V goes. Not wishing ill will on him but when you get the Perseverance award at the Espys your days are numbered.

I hope I'm wrong,.

Have you not been paying attention the last four seasons where I have said very little to nothing in support of him?

I've been calling him nothing more than an average QB for years. And since his W/L is right around .500 I'd say average is the good word to describe him. He's nothing special and if he doesn't have weapons around him he's gonna struggle.

He's not in the top tier of QB's and he's not in the very bottom tier. So wouldn't that make him average? Or do you think he's just total junk and shouldn't be starting for any team?

Average means middle. About 16 out of 32 or at least within a couple spots.

Baker looks a lot closer to 32 than 16 to me.
